Job summary

Job description

Our 14 household waste recycling centres accept around 85,000 tonnes of waste per year and accept 42 types of material.

The recycling centres are visited approximately 1.6 million times a year by residents.

You will play a key role in helping us maintain the best service for residents, be sustainable and provide good value for money.

Main Responsibilities

Your day-to-day duties will vary and may include the following:

  • Helping the public use the site safely, adhering to all Health and Safety guidance.
  • Being the accountable fire marshal and first aid trained responder on site.
  • Providing friendly, informative, and professional customer service.
  • Promoting high standards of health and safety to protect yourself and your team.
  • Safely operating equipment and machinery, and reporting any faults and issues.
  • Working with commercial traders, providing advice, and handling payments.
  • Reporting unauthorized waste depositing and promoting environmental sustainability.
  • Supporting other HWRC teams as part of the Staffordshire HWRC Network.
The Ideal Candidate

You'll be:

  • A strong team player.
  • Knowledgeable about health and safety legislation and operations.
  • Flexible in your approach to duties, willing to learn and be trained.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to interact with site staff, management, clients, contractors, and the public.
  • Strong numerical, literacy, and paperwork recording skills.
  • An understanding of recycling and recyclable materials is an advantage.
  • Trained First Aider or willing to be trained.
  • A Full UK driving licence.
  • Experienced in operating above 10-ton 360 wheeled excavators or willing to learn.
  • Experienced in operating Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) or willing to learn.
  • Interviews will be held: Week commencing 30 June 2025.
