The opportunity

We believe HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) technology offers a long-term sustainable solution for energy transfer. It is used for long-distance energy transmission, connecting electricity networks with minimal losses, and alleviating electricity quality problems, contributing to power grid stabilization. HVDC is essential for offshore wind power and underwater transmissions.

As a Senior Hardware Design Engineer at HVDC, you will design and lead the control cabinet layout, including hundreds of circuit boards for measurements, control, and calculations. Your work will also involve user interfaces such as HMI, diagnostic tools, and IT infrastructure, utilizing our in-house real-time platform MACH to meet industry standards.

Location: Glasgow, UK. Please note we cannot provide visa support for this position.

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Implement control and protection hardware solutions for HVDC/HVAC systems.
  • Design cubicles and integrate hardware components.
  • Create bill of materials, terminal diagrams, and coordinate with manufacturers.
  • Prepare cable lists and termination schedules.
  • Develop design specifications, overview diagrams, and clarify concepts with coordinators.
  • Participate in design reviews to identify errors and improve processes.
  • Coordinate with other departments and stakeholders.
  • Prepare CBD, PCD, cable schedules, and connection tables.
  • Validate design drawings and documents from suppliers.
  • Support functional tests and site commissioning, designing cubicle layouts with access points, earthing, and cable routing.
  • Work with customers to ensure delivery standards are met.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and share best practices.

Your Background
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Experience leading engineering teams.
  • Knowledge of control & protection panel design (CRP).
  • Site experience in testing and commissioning is a plus.
  • Technical coordination with suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Experience with CAD tools like Engineering Base or Ruplan is valuable.
  • EMC knowledge or experience with AC substations is a merit.
  • Based in the UK with the right to work there.
