Job Description Summary

As HVDC Site Lead Engineer, you will supervise and manage a team of engineers, technicians, and/or subcontractors for the installation, pre-commissioning, and maintenance of HVDC Solutions.

UK Grid Solutions Limited, Stafford, is an international leader in high power electronics and control technology, specializing in the engineering of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission Systems using both Line-Commutated (thyristor-based) and Voltage-Sourced (IGBT-based) converter technologies.

Job Description
Responsibilities:
  • Lead and supervise a team of field engineers and technicians in assembly, repair, maintenance, and pre-commissioning work on-site or in workshops/test facilities.
  • Oversee mechanical work and electrical testing on site.
  • Update technical documentation related to site activities.
  • Plan projects and prepare necessary tools, equipment, spare parts, and documentation.
  • Report on work progress using daily reports, Smartsheet management, and progress charts.
  • Monitor quality and traceability of works, manage NCRs, reports, and quality plans.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as close-out reporting and lessons learned.
  • Ensure safety and promote EHS culture among stakeholders, in accordance with GE policies.
  • Report dangerous situations and promote safety observation reporting.
  • Maintain and review Valve Delivery Project Plans and related schedules.
  • Participate in risk reviews, budget tracking, and adherence to project timelines and KPIs.
  • Lead non-conformity management related to valve site activities.
  • Participate in engineering reviews and represent HVDC Valve at customer sites when required.
  • Share best practices and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
  • Perform tasks such as pipe fitting, mechanical build, busbar jointing, fiber optics laying, pressure and flow tests, and electrical checks.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Problem-solving and project management abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools.
