Job Description Summary

We are looking for a self-motivated service engineer in power electronics able to manage service contracts, site activities, and support/participate in commissioning of FACTS & HVDC equipment.

This is a key position in GE’s Service organization, responsible for leading the technical aspects of multi-year service contracts, supporting customers across different countries, and being part of a community of experts supporting global high-tech equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform and lead maintenance, onsite activities, and technical support on FACTS or HVDC transmission systems.
  • Manage preparations for site activities in coordination with end customers.
  • Perform commissioning activities on FACTS or HVDC transmission systems.
  • Lead technical portions of service contracts over several years.
  • Attend and lead customer meetings, identifying solutions that meet needs.
  • Carry out FACTS projects involving minor renovations/upgrades.
  • Support ITO team during tenders for the technical part.
  • Location: Home/office based with 50-100% travel to GEV offices or substations as required.
Technical Knowledge
  • Experience with switching equipment, harmonic filters, and instrumentation transformers.
  • Knowledge of FACTS equipment (Thyristor and IGBT), rotating machines is a plus.
  • Experience with commissioning of protection relays.
  • Troubleshooting skills using network recorders and analyzers.
  • Ability to resolve incidents on site and analyze logs and curves.
Abilities
  • Strong commitment to EHS standards and rules during site activities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to document, write reports, and plan site activities.
  • Knowledge of project management principles.
  • Ability to manage on-site teams.
  • Excellent customer management skills, especially during incidents.
  • Team player with willingness to share knowledge and experience.
Required Qualifications
  • Engineering degree or equivalent in Power Electronics.
  • Strong engineering background and technical understanding of power electronics.
  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Deep knowledge of drives, FACTS, or HVDC equipment (valves, control, protections).
  • Availability to travel up to 50%, possibly 100% during training and short periods.
  • Fluent English communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn equipment-specific training.
  • Valid UK driving license.
  • Home or GE office-based with travel; company car provided.
