Here at Serco, we are looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our FM department at HMP Ashfield, a category C male establishment prison based in Pucklechurch near Bristol. The operational capacity is for 416 prisoners, and it takes a skilled team to keep the facility safe, secure, and in proper working order.

The key purpose of this role is to carry out routine HVAC and/or Mechanical Engineering work, preventative maintenance, and repairs. You will ensure that various pre-planned maintenance schedules are kept up to date and maintained as required. The role requires leadership, setting visible standards of personal performance, and accountability, with a degree of independence in functioning.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Fault finding and defect rectification on installed plant and equipment
  • Supporting other members of the FM service team in completing work, such as plumbing
  • Escorting contractors around the site as per written procedures
  • Installing new plant and apparatus as defined
  • Investigating plant and equipment performance and producing reports and recommendations
  • Familiarity with operation and maintenance of various systems and equipment
  • Being aware of all Health & Safety considerations on site
  • Participating in a call-out rota and potential weekend work

Qualifications and Experience

You should have HVAC and/or Mechanical Engineering Qualification (C&G, NVQ), be a member of a relevant professional body (desired), hold an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, and have at least 3 years post-qualification experience.

The successful candidate will enjoy working as part of a team, be proactive, and committed to customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. Flexibility to participate in a call-out rota and weekend work is essential. All offers are subject to security clearance checks, including CRB and CTC level security clearance.
