Job summary

Dalkia UK is seeking a dedicated HVAC Engineer to maintain heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems at the Bristol EDF site. You will ensure safe, compliant operation, perform planned maintenance and respond to faults while keeping detailed records.

The role requires delivering compliant maintenance, supporting energy efficiency, and working within safety and statutory guidelines, with on-site responsibilities and on-call duties.

Qualifications

  • NVQ/City & Guilds Level 2 or 3 in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning or equivalent.
  • Current F-Gas Certification.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification (BS 7671).

Dalkia have an opportunity for an HVAC Engineer to join their facilities maintenance team at the EDF office in Aztec West, Bristol.

Full-time, permanent

40 hours per week

Mon – Fri 7.30am – 4pm + on-call

Main Purpose of Job

The HVAC Engineer is responsible for the safe, compliant and efficient maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems across the site. The role supports operational continuity, occupant comfort, environmental compliance and statutory assurance through the delivery of Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance and fault diagnosis activities. The postholder shall ensure that all HVAC systems are maintained in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, statutory requirements, F-Gas regulations and EDF procedures whilst maintaining accurate and auditable maintenance records.

In addition to HVAC-specific responsibilities, the postholder will support the wider Dalkia Facilities team by undertaking other maintenance, inspection and operational activities that are commensurate with their qualifications, training, experience and demonstrated competence. This flexibility supports efficient service delivery whilst ensuring all activities remain within authorised competency limits and safe systems of work.

Main Responsibilities
Maintenance & Service Delivery
  • Undertake planned preventative maintenance on HVAC, ventilation, refrigeration and associated plant.
  • Respond to reactive breakdowns and service requests within agreed response times.
  • Diagnose faults using a structured and methodical approach.
  • Complete repairs, component replacement and system adjustments within authorised competency limits.
  • Support seasonal optimisation of heating, cooling and ventilation systems.
  • Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for improved efficiency, reliability and energy performance.
Compliance & Governance
  • Maintain refrigerant systems in accordance with F-Gas legislation and company procedures.
  • Carry out refrigerant leak detection, recovery and charging activities where authorised.
  • Ensure all refrigerant use, recovery and disposal activities are accurately recorded.
  • Maintain compliance with site Permit to Work systems, RAMS and safe systems of work.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in accordance with manufacturer guidance and site procedures.
  • Escalate compliance concerns, defects or operational risks promptly through the appropriate management channels.
Health, Safety & Environmental Management
  • Work safely at all times and comply with EDF Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Undertake dynamic risk assessments before commencing work.
  • Participate in permit, isolation and lock-off procedures where required.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and intervene where necessary.
  • Support investigations into HVAC-related failures, incidents or environmental non-conformances.
  • Minimise environmental impact through responsible refrigerant management and leak prevention.
Asset Information & Records
  • Accurately record all maintenance activities within CAFM or approved maintenance systems.
  • Maintain HVAC asset records and service histories.
  • Ensure maintenance activity is fully evidenced with appropriate notes, readings, photographs and test results where required.
  • Record refrigerant usage, leak checks and corrective actions in line with statutory requirements.
  • Support audits by providing clear and traceable maintenance records.
Customer & Stakeholder Support
  • Respond professionally to occupant comfort complaints and environmental concerns.
  • Balance user requirements against system integrity and operational constraints.
  • Communicate effectively with Facilities Managers, contractors, suppliers and building occupants.
  • Provide technical advice regarding HVAC system operation and limitations.
  • Support wider engineering and facilities teams as required.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • NVQ / City & Guilds Level 2 or Level 3 in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning or equivalent.
  • Current F-Gas Certification.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification (BS 7671).
Desirable Qualifications
  • Recognised engineering apprenticeship.
  • NVQ / City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical Installation, Electrical Maintenance, or equivalent.
  • IPAF.
  • PASMA.
  • IOSH Working Safely.
  • Permit to Work training.
  • Building Management System (BMS) awareness.
Essential Experience
  • Minimum two to three years' experience maintaining HVAC and refrigerant systems.
  • Experience undertaking both planned and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Experience fault finding across air conditioning and ventilation systems.
  • Experience maintaining maintenance records and refrigerant logs.
  • Experience working within compliance-controlled environments.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience in commercial office, industrial, energy or complex FM environments.
  • Experience using CAFM systems.
  • Experience working under Permit to Work arrangements.
  • Experience supporting statutory compliance programmes.
