Job summary

Mane Energy requires an experienced HV Substation Protection & Control Design Engineer to join the team in Bellshill, Scotland. You will design protection and control systems for transformers, lines, busbars and switchgear, and develop protection philosophies and relay settings for complex HV projects.

You will coordinate SCADA integration, IEC 61850 architectures, and protection studies, while liaising with clients and suppliers to ensure robust electrical solutions aligned with standards.

Qualifications

• Degree or HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering.
• Previous experience in HV Substation Protection & Control design.
• Strong understanding of electrical protection, control systems and substation automation.
• Experience with protection systems for transformers, transmission lines, busbars and HV switchgear.
• Knowledge of IEC, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Understanding of IEC 61850 and modern substation communication systems.
• Experience with ETAP, DIgSILENT, EPLAN, Helinks or similar.
• Ability to interpret and produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical drawings.

Responsibilities

• Design HV substation protection and control systems for transformers, transmission lines, busbars and switchgear.
• Develop protection philosophies, control schematics, relay settings and interlocking schemes.
• Produce detailed protection and control drawings, schedules, specifications and technical documentation.
• Support the development and integration of SCADA and substation automation systems.
• Develop and review communication architectures, including IEC 61850-based solutions.
• Undertake protection coordination, fault analysis and associated power system studies.
• Review engineering designs and technical documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants and equipment suppliers throughout the design and delivery process.
• Review third-party designs and provide technical input where required.
• Support factory acceptance testing, site testing, commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
• Assist with system upgrades, modifications and refurbishment projects.
• Contribute to design reviews, technical meetings and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant national, international and utility standards.
• Support continuous improvement of engineering processes, standards and design practices.
