Job description

Location: Montrose, Angus - full time - 3-month contract

Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced HV Project Engineer to oversee and manage high-voltage electrical maintenance activities across onshore renewable energy site. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient execution of planned and reactive HV maintenance works, supporting asset availability and operational excellence across a portfolio of transmission-connected infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver HV maintenance activities: inspections, protection testing, oil sampling, fault diagnosis, repair, and replacement in line with OEM and regulatory standards.
  • Drive a proactive, zero-tolerance safety culture in collaboration with HSE and site management teams.
  • Ensure RAMS are prepared, reviewed, and implemented for all works.
  • Plan and coordinate the deployment of personnel, tools, and equipment to deliver scheduled maintenance programs and unplanned works.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, and internal teams to align operational activities with wider program goals.
  • Support asset integrity by updating maintenance reports, logging defects, and feeding into asset management systems.
  • Manage subcontractors on site, including inductions, compliance monitoring, and performance oversight.
  • Ensure statutory compliance with LOLER, fire safety systems, and HVAC maintenance standards.
  • Submit client reports (monthly and annual) and provide data to support billing, KPI tracking, and improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate outage requests and liaise with transmission operators to ensure work is delivered within regulatory and system constraints.
  • Participate in the fault and emergency standby rota.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Significant hands-on experience with HV electrical systems (design, construction, maintenance, and operation).
  • Strong working knowledge of onshore renewable infrastructure, preferably in transmission-connected wind, solar, or battery energy storage systems.
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar discipline).
  • LOLER inspection competence.
  • Experience with fire safety and HVAC system maintenance.
  • Project and team management experience within a regulated, safety-critical industry.
  • Familiarity with HV authorisation processes and working with OEM systems (e.g. turbines, switchgear, transformers, cables).
  • Strong IT skills for use in reporting, planning, and asset management systems.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • GWO’s – due to some offshore work, via a vessel – some hands-on work is required as and when.

Desirable

  • Background in highly controlled environments such as utility networks, power generation, military, or heavy industry.
  • OEM training or technical experience with turbines, cables, transformers, or switchgear.
  • Experience in liaising with transmission system operators in the UK.
  • Understanding of commercial drivers and regulatory pressures in the renewable energy sector.

This role suits a highly capable HV professional with strong leadership and coordination skills, committed to safety, operational integrity, and delivering high standards in the evolving renewable energy landscape.
