A key part of the UK’s journey to net zero carbon is the revolution of our electricity industry to enable clean, green economic growth. As the North West’s electricity network operator, it’s our responsibility to lead the way, help the region decarbonise and pave the way for the growth of renewable energy and a sustainable energy future for all.

We’re proud that in December 2024 we were named Utility of the Year by Utility Week magazine who said we punched above our weight and used innovation to solve some of the industry’s most difficult challenges. Come and be part of our team and make a difference.

Together we have the energy to transform our communities. We are switched on. We are adaptable. We take pride.

Our Role

In your first few weeks in this HV Planning Engineer role, you can expect to:

  • Develop the HV network in accordance with all appropriate standards;
  • Plan new demand and generation connections to the network;
  • Undertake post-connection acceptance studies to ensure acceptable technical operation of the network subsequent to the planned connection;
  • Review other studies for compliance with G5/5, P28 and P29;
  • Review new generation for compliance with G99.

What we’re looking for

  • HNC level (essential) or degree (preferable) qualification in Electrical Engineering. You will also require the following:
  • An excellent understanding of the UK power system distribution network across all voltages;
  • Thorough technical knowledge of electrical network components, network operation, operational policy, network design standards, Codes of Practice and Engineering Specifications;
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of the electricity distribution business, specifically an understanding of regulatory and industry standards within electricity distribution;
  • proficient in the use of power systems software, including IPSA and DINIS.

What we’re offering
