Job summary

Options Resourcing Ltd is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join the Salford-based team. You will design LV to 33kV installations, prepare specifications, and deliver robust engineering solutions in line with client needs and standards.

You will collaborate with clients, contractors and internal teams, perform load calculations and protection coordination, and contribute to project delivery within budgets and timescales.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical engineering design.
• Experience designing LV through to 33kV systems.
• Experience with utility, power distribution or electrical connections projects.
• Proficiency with Amtech, ETAP or PowerFactory; AutoCAD knowledge.
• Strong report-writing and documentation skills.
• IET registration or willingness to pursue professional registration.

Electrical Design Engineer

About the Role:

We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team based in Salford.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Electrical Design Engineer with a strong background in electrical engineering design, particularly within utility, power distribution and electrical connections projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality electrical designs, developing technical specifications and ensuring that all engineering solutions meet relevant industry standards, safety requirements and project objectives.

You will work closely with internal engineering teams, clients, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely and within agreed budgets and timescales.

Key Responsibilities:

• Understand project requirements, objectives and technical deliverables, ensuring designs meet client expectations.
• Design and specify electrical installations covering Low Voltage (LV) through to 33kV systems.
• Carry out detailed electrical system modelling, including load calculations, fault level assessments and protection coordination.
• Ensure all electrical designs and site activities comply with relevant industry standards, regulations and technical requirements.
• Prepare detailed technical specifications for electrical equipment and installations.
• Produce and review technical drawings, design documentation and engineering reports.
• Clearly communicate technical design concepts through drawings, reports, presentations and project meetings.
• Represent the engineering function professionally during client, contractor and stakeholder meetings.
• Conduct site surveys, inspections and technical assessments to ensure design accuracy and project compliance.
• Monitor on-site engineering activities and provide technical support where required.
• Assist with managing project delivery, including budgets, costs and technical deadlines.
• Maintain accurate engineering records, reports and project documentation.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Identify potential technical challenges and recommend practical engineering solutions.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, you will ideally have:

• HNC, HND or an equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 5 years' experience working within electrical engineering design.
• Experience designing electrical systems from LV through to 33kV.
• Experience working on utility, power distribution or electrical connections-related projects.
• Good knowledge of relevant electrical engineering standards, regulations and industry requirements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience using electrical design and modelling software such as Amtech, ETAP or PowerFactory.
• Basic working knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Strong technical report-writing and documentation skills.
• Current registration with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), or a willingness to work towards professional registration
