Job summary

Options Resourcing Ltd seeks an experienced Electrical Design Engineer in Salford to join a growing engineering team. You will deliver high quality electrical designs for LV to 33kV, develop technical specifications and ensure compliance with standards and safety requirements.

You will work with internal teams, clients and contractors to ensure on-time, within-budget project delivery and provide site support as needed.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of electrical design experience.
• Experience designing LV to 33kV systems.
• Experience in utility/power distribution projects.
• Knowledge of electrical standards and regulations.
• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Experience with Amtech, ETAP or PowerFactory.
• AutoCAD knowledge.
• Strong technical report writing ability.
• IET registration or willingness to pursue.

Responsibilities

• Interpret project requirements and deliverables to meet client expectations.
• Design and specify LV through 33kV electrical installations.
• Conduct load calculations, fault level assessments and protection coordination.

Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Salford, Greater Manchester

About the Role

We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team based in Salford. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Electrical Design Engineer with a strong background in electrical engineering design, particularly within utility, power distribution and electrical connections projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high–quality electrical designs, developing technical specifications and ensuring that all engineering solutions meet relevant industry standards, safety requirements and project objectives. You will work closely with internal engineering teams, clients, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely and within agreed budgets and timescales.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand project requirements, objectives and technical deliverables, ensuring designs meet client expectations.
• Design and specify electrical installations covering Low Voltage (LV) through to 33kV systems.
• Carry out detailed electrical system modelling, including load calculations, fault level assessments and protection coordination.
• Ensure all electrical designs and site activities comply with relevant industry standards, regulations and technical requirements.
• Prepare detailed technical specifications for electrical equipment and installations.
• Produce and review technical drawings, design documentation and engineering reports.
• Clearly communicate technical design concepts through drawings, reports, presentations and project meetings.
• Represent the engineering function professionally during client, contractor and stakeholder meetings.
• Conduct site surveys, inspections and technical assessments to ensure design accuracy and project compliance.
• Monitor on–site engineering activities and provide technical support where required.
• Assist with managing project delivery, including budgets, costs and technical deadlines.
• Maintain accurate engineering records, reports and project documentation.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Identify potential technical challenges and recommend practical engineering solutions.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, you will ideally have:

• HNC, HND or an equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 5 years' experience working within electrical engineering design.
• Experience designing electrical systems from LV through to 33kV.
• Experience working on utility, power distribution or electrical connections–related projects.
• Good knowledge of relevant electrical engineering standards, regulations and industry requirements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience using electrical design and modelling software such as Amtech, ETAP or PowerFactory.
• Basic working knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Strong technical report–writing and documentation skills.
• Current registration with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), or a willingness to work towards professional registration.
