Summary

Freedom's Network team is currently recruiting a Fitter - Electrical / Mechanical based in the South due to an increase in confirmed projects with our client. The main purpose of the role is to be part of a team installing and constructing electrical power distribution and transmission systems from 400V to 132kV, ensuring safe, high-quality workmanship and fit-for-purpose networks that promote the company positively.

The Fitters will deliver the installation of ground-mounted and structure-mounted power system components, including cable systems, switchgear, transformers, busbars, relay panels, and associated equipment in substations operating at up to 132kV. The site-based teams work across the SSE South DNO region.

Key responsibilities include:

• Progressing to "Authorised Person" status under the Customer's Safety Rules, enabling independent access to live substations, permit to work, and supervision of a working party.
• Performing professionally to build customer confidence and contribute to project growth.
• Adhering to all procedures with a focus on health and safety.
• Completing tasks such as excavation, cable pulling, mechanical and electrical fitting, and small wiring, including relay panel and telecontrol works, while increasing skills and knowledge.

Candidate requirements:

• Mechanical or electrical qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, ONC, 18th Edition) or relevant experience.
• Practical skills using hand tools.
• Basic operational knowledge of electrical or mechanical systems.
• Experience working on HV substation sites, including electrical/mechanical fitting or jointing in an open busbar environment.
• Good operational knowledge of electrical power distribution systems.
• SMSTS or SSSTS certification is desirable but not essential.
• UKPN or other DNO authorisations.
