Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd is seeking a High Voltage Commissioning Engineer to lead testing and commissioning of HV systems up to 132kV across England. The role offers a competitive basic salary (£72,000) with significant overtime potential and a company van with fuel card, plus daily and overnight allowances.

You will work hands-on, reporting on commissioning activities, ensuring HV protection, switchgear, and grid connections meet industry standards.

Qualifications

• 3+ years hands-on HV commissioning experience.
• Proven commissioning experience up to 132kV.
• Experience across DNO, ICP, IDNO or private HV networks.
• Must have SAP experience/authorisation.

Responsibilities

• Test and commission electrical systems up to 132kV on-site.
• Coordinate and manage commissioning activities across sites in England.

A growing high voltage engineering business is looking for an experienced High Voltage Commissioning Engineer to join their team, working on HV infrastructure projects across England.

This is a hands‑on role covering the testing and commissioning of electrical systems up to 132kV, including substations, grid connections, renewable energy projects and industrial installations.

The Package

• Overtime paid at 1.5x after 8 hours
• Saturday overtime at 1.5x, increasing to 2x after 5 hours
• Sunday overtime paid at 2x
• Typical working pattern includes around 2 hours of overtime per day
• Company van and fuel provided
• £40 daily away/overnight allowance, paid through payroll
• Additional £40 per night spending allowance on a pre-loaded card
• Typical commissioning engineers can take home around £5,300+ per month, depending on overtime
• 3+ years’ hands‑on HV commissioning experience
• Proven commissioning experience up to 132kV
• Must already have SAP experience/authorisation – this is not a role for someone currently training to become an SAP
• Experience working across DNO, ICP, IDNO or private HV networks
• Strong knowledge of HV testing, protection, switchgear and commissioning procedures
• Comfortable working independently on site and managing commissioning activities

The work is carried out across England, so location is flexible for the right candidate.
