Job summary

Ipsum Utilities Limited is seeking a HV Commissioning Engineer to lead the testing and commissioning of HV/LV systems across the UK. The role involves attending client meetings, performing comprehensive site testing from LV to 33 kV, and ensuring all records and handover documentation are complete.

The ideal candidate will have experience with protection relays, be able to read schematics, and be prepared to travel extensively. A strong focus on safety and cost-effective delivery is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience with HV/LV electrical testing and commissioning.
• Ability to read schematics and fault-find electrical diagrams.
• Knowledge of protection relays and settings (Schneider, Siemens, GE Agile).
• Willingness to travel across the UK and work away from home.

Responsibilities

• Attend commissioning meetings with client engineering and ops teams.
• Undertake Site Acceptance Testing from LV to 33 kV, including breakers/transformers.
• Commission and maintain HV and LV power distribution systems safely and cost-effectively.
• Perform electrical pressure testing on transformers, switchgear and cables.
• Conduct relay secondary and primary injection testing.
• Maintain LV/HV equipment and related switchgear components.
• Prepare accurate test documentation and handover packs for clients.
• Supervise and advise site installation teams on protection installation.
• Demonstrate commissioned plant to client representatives for sign-off.
• Complete commissioning records for O&M manuals.

Job description

We have another fantastic opportunity for you to join our Private Networks Division - HV Commissioning Engineer.

As a HV Commissioning Engineer you will …

Attend commissioning meetings with representatives from our clients engineering and operational teams.

Undertaking Site Acceptance Testing for major items of plant. (From LV up to and including 33kV Transmission Level. Circuit Breakers / Transformers / P&C Panels / AVC etc.

Commissioning and Maintenance of HV & LV Power Distribution systems in a safe and cost effective manner, ensuring design and specification meets requirements of testing including carrying out:

Electrical Pressure Testing - Transformers / Switchgear / Cables

Relay Secondary Injection Testing

Primary Injection Testing

Maintenance of LV and HV - OCB / VCB / ACB's

Produce accurate test documentation & records for hand over to Management, to be included in Test Packages to be handed over to clients

Wide knowledge of new and old Protection relays including Alstom, Schneider, Siemens including Settings input / PSL / CFC / Logic diagrams

Be able to read Schematic drawings & fault find

Work involves travelling and working away from home across the whole of the UK

The commissioning, interfacing, and setting to work of equipment, including:

LV Switchgear (Manufacturers include Brush / Schneider)

HV Switchgear (Siemens / Schneider and Legacy Switchgear types)

Substation Ancillary systems (Battery Chargers / Local Control Interface panels / HMI / LV AC Supplies etc / Comms / Scada Control Panels (RTU) .

Preparation of installation Cable Schedules and Core Sheets.

Demonstration of commissioned plant to our client's representatives to gain plant sign off

Completion of commissioning records ensuring that all progress and equipment settings are recorded for the O&M manuals.

Must be familiar with Distribution and Transmission (up to 33kV) Level protection systems.

Knowledge of Omicron numerical protection test equipment a distinct advantage. Along with familiarity of knowledge of Schneider / GE (Agile) / Siemens (Digsi 4 & 5) software packages would be a distinct advantage.

Ability to supervise and advise site installation teams on aspects of protection installation.
