Humanities Teacher – Early Career Teacher (ECT) Opportunities

September 2025 (or earlier for induction/preparation work)

Salary / Pay Rate:
£140–£170 per day (inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay)
About the Role:
Cover People are excited to support Early Career Teachers (ECTs) in their first steps into secondary education. We are working closely with welcoming and inclusive secondary schools across Tameside to place newly qualified Humanities Teachers in day-to-day and short-term roles — with long-term or permanent options often arising.
Whether you’re looking to build confidence, complete your induction, or gain varied classroom experience across KS3 and KS4, we offer flexible placements tailored to your aspirations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned Humanities lessons to KS3 and KS4 pupils
• Create a positive, inclusive learning environment
• Maintain classroom behaviour and follow school policies
• Work collaboratively with staff and participate in school life
• Support pupil progress and adapt to individual needs
• Develop your practice with guidance from mentors and experienced colleagues
Person Specification:
Essential:
• Currently completing or recently completed PGCE or equivalent with QTS
• Degree in Mathematics or a related subject
• Passion for teaching and pupil development
• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply through Cover People UK)
Desirable:
• Experience on placement within secondary school settings
• Willingness to work flexibly across different schools
