Job description

A specialist Higher Education institution is seeking an HR Officer to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis. This role will join a team of three to provide support on all aspects of the employee life cycle.

It’s an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR Officer or a candidate with significant HR experience in the Higher Education sector looking to take the next step in their career.

Key responsibilities:
  • Recruitment & Onboarding – Manage job postings, shortlisting, interviews, job offers, contracts, right-to-work checks, and onboarding processes, including probation monitoring and contract renewals.
  • Payroll & Contractual Changes – Process new starters and leavers, issue contract changes, track visa restrictions, and ensure accurate payroll updates.
  • Visa Compliance – Monitor visa expirations, verify immigration statuses, support sponsorship applications, and stay up to date with government immigration policies.
  • Grievance & Disciplinary Support – Take notes during meetings, draft correspondence, assist in case management, and liaise with legal/HR advisory services.
  • HR Record Keeping – Maintain staff records, personnel files, HR databases, and ensure accurate staff lists for academic and administrative teams.
  • Policies & Processes – Update HR policies, improve processes, manage documentation, and assist with employee handbook revisions and data reporting.
  • General HR Administration – Support HR colleagues during absences, manage leave requests, process references, conduct audits, oversee annual reviews, and organise staff wellbeing initiatives.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Educated to graduate level or working towards CIPD qualification.
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in HR.
  • Experience working within the Higher Education sector.
  • Ability to use initiative and to be able to work independently.
