Job summary

ABL Recruitment is seeking a commercially minded HR Manager to shape the people strategy for a high-performance trading business. The role focuses on building scalable people systems, performance and compensation frameworks, and ensuring objective decision-making.

You will lead the design and delivery of performance management, hiring processes and talent development, reporting to the Founder & CEO in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. London hybrid; 4 days in-office.

Job title: HR Manager

Location: London (hybrid – 4 days in the office, 1 day WFH)

The Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of a high-performance quantitative trading business looking for a commercially minded Head of People / HR Manager to professionalise and scale its people function.

This is not a traditional HR administration role. You'll be responsible for building high-performance people systems, raising standards, developing strong teams and ensuring performance and compensation decisions are objective, consistent and commercially focused.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and implement company-wide performance management frameworks.
• Establish consistent, data-driven performance evaluations across the business.
• Support managers with monthly and quarterly performance reviews.
• Identify underperformance early and manage improvement plans or exits where required.
• Develop structured hiring processes focused on ability, problem-solving and performance.
• Create role scorecards, success criteria and effective hiring pipelines.
• Build both early-career and experienced talent pipelines.
• Develop performance-linked compensation and incentive frameworks.
• Ensure pay and bonuses are aligned with performance and business results.
• Act as a guardian of company culture, accountability and high standards.
• Address behavioural and performance issues directly and professionally.
• Oversee contracts, appraisals, compliance and scalable people processes.
• Provide clear, commercially grounded advice to the Founder & CEO.

About You

• Experience leading People/HR within a high-performance, fast-paced environment.
• Strong commercial judgement and confidence making difficult people decisions.
• Proven experience building performance management and talent frameworks.
• Strong understanding of hiring, compensation and employee development.
• Comfortable challenging senior stakeholders and managers constructively.
• Highly organised with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Data-driven and focused on measurable outcomes.
• Comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial environment with limited bureaucracy.
• Experience within quantitative trading, finance, technology, sports, consulting or another high-performance environment would be advantageous.
