Job description

We are currently looking for an HR Business Partner to join the People Team at First Mile. The HR Business Partner will support the business across our 7 locations (including London, Birmingham and Newark) toprovide expert HR support with regards to complex employee relations, talent acquisition, systems, development and change activity. This role will act as the escalation point for HR Advisors and support operational line managers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and advise on complex employee relations cases, including disciplinaries, grievances, investigations, absence, and performance issues. Including conduct, capability, TUPE and performance procedures
  • Lead and advise on all other employee relations matters such as sickness, parental leave, flexible working and other paid/unpaid absences
  • Coach and support HR Advisors to build capability and confidence across ER and recruitment
  • Partner with operational and office-based managers to provide proactive HR guidance aligned with company values
  • Work with the HR Director on organisational change projects, restructures, and engagement initiatives and execute these as required, including executing TUPE processes
  • Identify trends in casework or turnover and suggest proactive interventions
  • Support hard-to-fill recruitment directly and/or provide strategic input on sourcing, including coaching managers on fair and effective candidate selection and interviews
  • Support with the auditing and maintenance of comprehensive and accurate HR records in accordance with GDPR and employment law
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of HR policies, manager training, and process improvement
  • Oversee payroll including any external payroll agency, ensuring that people are paid correctly and in line with all policies and legislation as well as ensuring expenses and mileage claims are dealt with promptly
  • Supporting with the identification and management of appropriate HR systems
  • Supporting on the identification, creation and management of Learning and Development programs

Experience & Skills

  • Proven track record managing complex ER cases across multi-site environments
  • Confident working independently and advising senior stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of UK employment law and best practice
  • Experience mentoring or guiding more junior HR team members
  • Able to work flexibly across strategic and operational HR activities
  • Good writing and editing skills for all written correspondence that could be used in a legal setting
  • Strong people skills
  • Good planning and organisation skills
