Job summary

A leading company in the UK defence sector is seeking a Human Factors Engineer to join their multidisciplinary team supporting submarine programmes. This role offers a remote working arrangement and involves critical tasks such as Human Factors Integration, compliance with safety standards, and collaboration with engineering teams. Ideal candidates will possess a strong background in Human Factors or Ergonomics, especially in safety-critical settings. This is a long-term contract position with competitive hourly rates.

Qualifications

Job description

Working Arrangements: Mostly remote working

Duration: 3 month rolling contract

Hourly Rate: £66.14 PAYE or £89.38 Umbrella

IR35 Status: Inside IR35

Clearance: Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance

BAE Systems is seeking a Human Factors Engineer to support submarine programmes at their Barrow site. You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring that human capabilities and limitations are considered throughout the engineering lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Human Factors Integration (HFI) across project phases
  • Contribute to task analysis, workload assessments, and usability reviews
  • Ensure compliance with defence standards and safety requirements
  • Work closely with engineering and safety teams to influence system design

Requirements:

  • Background in Human Factors, Ergonomics, or similar
  • Experience in defence, nuclear, or other safety-critical environments
  • Familiarity with relevant standards (e.g. Def Stan 00-250)
