Do you have a degree or postgraduate qualification in Human Factors, Psychology, Ergonomics, or a related discipline? If so, would you like to join a dynamic and supportive team that thrives on developing positive relationships across our business and the wider sector? If you are passionate about safety and enjoy problem solving, this may be the right opportunity for you.

The nuclear industry is experiencing growth and investment, leading to expansion of our Human Factors team to meet demand. We are seeking Junior, Senior, and Principal Human Factors Assessors to help NNL deliver a diverse portfolio of projects at the forefront of science.

As a member of the Human Factors team, you will work in multidisciplinary teams to define, implement, test, and justify the role of operators in high hazard environments.

Minimum requirements include the ability to obtain SC level security clearance, which involves identity, employment, financial, and criminal record checks, plus 5 years of UK residency.

The ideal Junior Human Factors Assessor should also have:

  • Effective Communication Skills: Ability to interact with various stakeholders, explain points clearly, present findings, and write reports effectively.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to identify safety-critical tasks and ensure they are optimized for human reliability.
  • Self-Motivation: Ability to plan and manage workload to deliver on time and within budget.
  • Previous Human Factors experience: Experience in high hazard environments is preferred but not essential; interest from other industries is welcome.

The ideal Senior or Principal Human Factors Assessor should also possess:

  • Great Communication Skills: Articulate compelling arguments to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Critical Thinking: Apply systematic analysis and pragmatic approaches.
  • Safety Management: Understand development and implementation of safety cases, support human-based protections.
  • Self-Motivation: Proactive work ethic, ability to develop evidence of Human Factors integration, manage costs, delivery, and schedule.
  • Developing Others: Enjoy mentoring junior team members.
  • Expertise in Human Factors: Significant experience with Human Factors tools and techniques in high hazard industries, knowledge of standards, and for Principal roles, a national or international reputation.
