Responsibilities

  • Lead and support manufacturing engineering activities relating to single crystal investment casting processes.
  • Develop and improve methods of manufacture for turbine components.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, yield, capability, and cost reduction.
  • Support engine development projects through the design and manufacture of aerospace turbine components.
  • Create and manage technical packages and manufacturing documentation.
  • Design, develop, and deliver manufacturing trials and experiments to advance process capability.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to optimise components for manufacture using DfM principles.
  • Investigate and resolve manufacturing non-conformances to ensure delivery of high-quality products.
  • Support the installation, validation, and improvement of manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations.
  • Build strong relationships with Rolls‑Royce engineering teams, customers, suppliers, and academic partners.
  • Act as a technical authority and knowledge hub for casting processes within the HTRC.

The Vacancy

We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer – Casting Technical Specialist to join the High Temperature Research Centre (HTRC) in Coventry. The HTRC is a unique collaboration between the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), the University of Birmingham, and Rolls-Royce, bringing together world‑class manufacturing capabilities, cutting‑edge research, and industry‑leading expertise. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of aerospace manufacturing, supporting the design, development, and manufacture of advanced turbine components while helping to develop the next generation of casting technologies.

About The Role

As a Manufacturing Engineer specialising in Single Crystal Investment Casting, you will play a key role in delivering research, development, and continuous improvement projects that support both current and future turbine component manufacture. You will work closely with manufacturing engineers, design engineers, researchers, project teams, customers, suppliers, and Rolls‑Royce foundry specialists to develop innovative manufacturing solutions and improve existing processes.

You’ll be responsible for driving technical excellence, improving manufacturing capability, and acting as a subject matter expert within your specialist area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support manufacturing engineering activities relating to single crystal investment casting processes.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve methods of manufacture for turbine components.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, yield, capability, and cost reduction.
  • Support engine development projects through the design and manufacture of aerospace turbine components.

What We’re Looking For
Essential
  • Degree‑qualified in Engineering or equivalent technical capability gained through experience.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing engineering principles.
  • Demonstrable expertise in single crystal investment casting.
  • Experience working within manufacturing, engineering, research, or production environments.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience managing technical projects, risks, and process improvements.

Experience in one or more of the following areas:
