Location: Sizewell C Project Site - Suffolk

The Civil Works Alliance is actively seeking a Fire and Emergency Preparedness Specialist to support the success of the Sizewell C Project, one of the UK's most ambitious and strategic nuclear infrastructure developments.

The Fire and Emergency Preparedness Specialist will be responsible for delivering all aspects of Integrated Emergency Management (IEM), which includes anticipating threats and hazards, assessing and preventing risks, preparing for potential effects, responding to emergencies, learning from experiences, recovering from incidents, and validating procedures. In this role, you will support Health, Safety, and Wellbeing (HSW) Managers and operational teams in ensuring full compliance with the Sizewell C (SZC) fire and emergency preparedness arrangements, ensuring that all legal and regulatory obligations are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keeping the CWA Incident Management Plan under continuous review and recommending changes to procedures as may be required.
  • Supported by the operational teams will, analyse, design, develop, implement and evaluate a comprehensive drills and exercise schedule to ensure readiness of response against prioritised delivery area threats and hazards.
  • Ensure Horizon Scanning the first four elements of Integrated Emergency Management (IEM) is carried out effectively, in that Anticipation, Assessment, Prevention and Preparation activity will be undertaken to mitigate against risk
  • To ensure close liaison and cooperation between the CWA response arrangements and that of the site emergency response teams, SZC Fire & Rescue Service, SZC Health Emergency Medical Response teams, G4S Security and the Site Operations Duty Manager.
  • Able to motivate, coach and support the CWA Project Management teams to deliver the Fire and EP project requirements.
  • To identify and exploit and joint learning, training, drilling and exercising opportunities with the site emergency services.

What skills & experience are we looking for?
  • Experience supervising teams in fast-paced, operational response environments.
  • Skilled in researching and planning risk-based exercises.
  • Ability to provide tactical emergency management advice to senior leaders.
  • Knowledge of Incident Controller and Emergency Marshal roles.
  • Familiar with SZC's Trauma Medical Immediate Care (TMIC) syllabus and advanced first aid techniques.
  • Understanding of relevant UK Health and Safety Legislation (e.g., Construction Regs 2015, Confined Space Regs, Civil Contingencies Act).
  • Knowledge of Nuclear Site Licensing Conditions (LC 11, LC 8).
  • Experience with Confined Space working and rescue (C&G Level 2 & 3).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Managers & Professionals competence
  • A good knowledge regarding the use of proprietary rescue equipment for rescue from height, rescue from depth.
