Chemring Energetics UK is a global business providing equipment based on energetic materials for defence, civil defence, and key commercial customers. An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for an HSSE Advisor to join our team!

The successful candidate will support day-to-day HSSE operations, provide expert guidance across the organization, ensure legal compliance, foster continuous improvement, and uphold high standards in health, safety, security, and environmental management.

Key Accountabilities & Duties:

  1. Ensure all activities comply fully with H&SE legislation, company policies, and procedures.
  2. Report unsafe acts or conditions observed, using the Near Miss System, in accordance with the responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  3. Support the HSSE Operations Manager and collaborate with Plant Management to ensure understanding and adherence to the Health, Safety, Security & Environment Policy and management systems.
  4. Conduct H&S inspections, audits, and general monitoring of designated areas to ensure compliance and manage resulting actions.
  5. Maintain safety and environmental management systems, update data, compile statistics, analyze trends, produce reports, and prepare procedures.
  6. Assist in completing risk assessments to an acceptable standard.
  7. Develop safe operational procedures considering all relevant hazards and suggest changes to work practices for safety and compliance.
  8. Perform regular site inspections to verify proper implementation of policies and procedures.
  9. Maintain HSSE logs and documentation for assigned departments and support the preparation of HSSE reports.
  10. Assist in developing and presenting HSSE training materials.
  11. Build and maintain positive relations with managers, employees, customers, and regulatory agencies.
  12. Participate in incident investigations and support root cause analysis.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent in Occupational Safety and Health.
  • Membership of IEMA (preferred).
  • Internal auditor certification in OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  • Certified in training accreditation.
  • Experience in HSSE teams within high-hazard manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge and experience in risk assessment in high-hazard settings.
  • Familiarity with OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Experience in incident investigation, problem solving, and root cause analysis.
  • Advanced IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
