The McDermott group are looking for an HSEQ Advisor to be based in Perth. You will play a crucial role in helping the organisation maintain high standards in health, safety, environmental protection, and quality management.

Overview of the Role

  • HSEQ Officer
  • Salary: £30,000 - £35,000
  • Holidays: 30 days. 1 additional day per year of service, maximum of 5 days. Holiday buy back scheme of additional 5 days.

Responsibilities

  • To cultivate and maintain strong customer relationships
  • Responsible for management of and liaison with HSEQ auditors to acquire/maintain Company’s accreditations
  • Creation, Monitoring and Maintenance of the procedures referenced within the Quality Management System
  • Coach, guide, advise and where necessary and instruct company employees including management on all HSEQ matters to ensure adherence to legalisation
  • Plan and perform audits, recording both successes and failings to implement best practice
  • Provide relevant training to internal personnel
  • Ensure that the company processes are delivering their intended outputs
  • Report on the performance of the HSEQ processes and on opportunities for improvement
  • Ensure the promotion of customer focus throughout the organisation
  • Ensure that the integrity of the HSEQ management system is maintained
  • Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced
  • Outline safe operational procedures which identify and consider all relevant hazards
  • Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented and adhered too
  • Ensure working practices are safe and compliant with legislation
  • Prepare health and safety strategies and develop internal policies relevant to the business
  • Lead in-house training with managers and employees about all QHSE matters and risks
  • Keep records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements
  • Record incidents and accidents and produce statistics for managers
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the employer's industry
  • Attend Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) seminars and read professional journals
  • Produce management reports, newsletters, and bulletins
  • Ensure equipment is installed safely
  • Manage and organise the safe disposal of hazardous substances, e.g., asbestos (COSHH)
  • Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g., fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery, and occupational diseases
  • Manage and monitor emergency procedures, signage, PPE, COSHH control etc.

Essential Skills

  • NEBOSH General or equivalent
  • Demonstrate a passion for Health, Safety, Environment & Quality with robust knowledge and understanding of these subjects
  • Able to work as a member of a team, but also capable of working alone to tight deadlines as appropriate, setting own high-quality standards
  • Proficient with MS Office – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • A strong working knowledge of Risk assessments, COSHH, RIDDOR, and Display Screen Equipment
  • Auditor training/experience
  • A “hands-on” implementer of processes and change
  • Full UK Driving licence and must be willing to travel
  • Must have full rights to work in UK / IDLR or Settled Status
