We are seeking an experienced HSE Manager to lead and develop Health, Safety and Environmental management across our operations.
Reporting into the leadership team, you will act as the subject matter expert and primary point of contact for all HSE matters, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, industry standards, and company requirements. You will be responsible for driving a positive safety culture, maintaining robust management systems, and supporting continuous improvement across the business.
This is a key leadership role that will oversee the development, implementation, and effectiveness of HSE strategies, policies, and procedures while providing guidance and support to managers and employees at all levels.
Health, Safety & Environmental Leadership
- Lead the development and implementation of Health, Safety and Environmental strategies, policies, and procedures.
- Promote a proactive safety culture and ensure HSE remains a key priority across all business activities.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to managers and employees on HSE matters.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance HSE performance and compliance.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all relevant UK Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
- Maintain and manage ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Oversee risk assessment processes and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.
- Develop and manage programmes for accident prevention and environmental protection.
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure business compliance with evolving requirements.
Auditing & Performance Monitoring
- Plan and conduct regular HSE audits, inspections, and workplace assessments.
- Manage internal and external audit programmes and support certification activities.
- Monitor and report on key HSE performance indicators, including incidents, near misses, environmental metrics, and corrective actions.
- Investigate incidents and implement effective corrective and preventative measures.
Environmental Management
- Manage environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives.
- Oversee waste management and environmental control measures.
- Monitor environmental impacts including emissions, pollution prevention, and resource management.
- Support the development of environmentally responsible working practices across the business.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop the HSE team.
- Support managers in delivering HSE objectives and maintaining compliance within their areas.
- Facilitate HSE training and awareness programmes across the organisation.
- Encourage employee engagement and ownership of safe working practices.
Contractor & Supplier Management
- Support the assessment and monitoring of contractors and suppliers from an HSE perspective.
- Ensure third parties comply with company standards and legal requirements.
- Build strong relationships with external stakeholders, regulators, and industry bodies.
About You
- Degree qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related discipline, or significant equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in an HSE management role within a manufacturing, engineering, construction, energy, or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
- Experience managing ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Experience conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Strong risk management and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Demonstrable experience leading and developing teams.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards.
- Lead Auditor qualification.
- Experience within offshore wind, heavy manufacturing, steel, fabrication, or renewable energy sectors.
- Knowledge of environmental permitting and sustainability frameworks.
