HSE Projects, Standards & Compliance Manager - Full Time - Birmingham, United Kingdom

Sulzer is a leading engineering company with a proud heritage of innovation. Join our global team to grow your expertise and develop innovative solutions that enable a prosperous and more sustainable society.

Sulzer is a global leader in fluid engineering, with over 180 locations worldwide and a century-long tradition of excellence. We design and deliver innovative solutions for pumps, agitators, compressors, and critical rotating equipment, serving industries such as oil and gas, power generation, and water treatment. But what truly sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to safety, which is ingrained in everything we do.

We are looking for a proactive HSE Projects, Standards & Compliance Manager to join our UK & Nordics Sub-Region team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to drive meaningful change, influencing the safety culture across our region and ensuring that Sulzer continues to lead with excellence and innovation. You will play a vital role in shaping and implementing strategies that not only protect our people and the environment but also align with Sulzer’s commitment to industry-leading safety standards.

Your Role:

  • HSE Project Management: Lead and manage key risk improvement programmes, such as Fire Safety and Work at Height, ensuring teams deliver impactful outcomes.
  • Internal & External Communications: Develop and design HSE communications that engage and inform both within the company and externally.
  • Supplier & Vendor Management: Build and maintain strong partnerships with external HSE suppliers, fostering collaboration to achieve shared objectives.
  • Leadership: Manage and mentor a high-performing team, including the Lifting Specialist and HSE Training Coordinator, empowering them to reach their full potential.
  • System Overhaul: Lead the redesign and improvement of our HSE Management System, including policies, procedures, and training.
  • Reporting & Compliance: Provide monthly reports on training completion, audit performance, and other HSE data while managing the HSE Audit Programme and maintaining accreditations.
  • Data Analysis & Incident Tracking: Analyse and track incident data, identify trends, and implement root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Global Program Oversight: Ensure the effective rollout of global safety initiatives, including Take 5 and Stop Work.
  • Occasional Travel: Visit Service Centres and attend regional HSE team meetings.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience in Business Intelligence, Project Management, and HSE Communications.
  • A passion for Health, Safety, and the Environment—or a strong willingness to learn.
  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent (desirable, but not essential).
  • Proven leadership skills, with experience in line management and developing high-performing HSE teams.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

If you're ready to be a part of an innovative, safety-first company that recognises and rewards your contributions, we'd love to hear from you!

Sulzer is an equal opportunity employer. We believe in the strength of a diverse workforce and are committed to offering an inclusive work environment.
