Job summary

Advantage Resourcing UK Ltd is seeking an experienced HSE Officer in Manchester to establish safe working areas and stop unsafe practices in a metal manufacturing setting.

You will deliver HSE training, conduct risk assessments, audits and investigations, and manage emergency preparedness. The role requires NEBOSH/IOSH certification and hands-on safety leadership.

Qualifications

• Experience with ISO 14001 audits and environmental permits compliance.
• Experience supervising waste segregation, storage, transfer and disposal; liaising with licensed contractors.

Responsibilities

• Deliver hands-on HSE training and guidance to managers and staff.
• Prepare, check and update risk assessments, safe work methods and operational controls; drive closure of actions.
• Conduct weekly health and safety audits and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
• Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, near misses and environmental events; determine root causes and implement corrective measures.
• Oversee emergency preparedness, including fire safety, spill response, first-aid coordination and evacuation exercises.
• Encourage workforce engagement and proactive reporting through safety meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Keep an up-to-date register of all hazardous substances used or stored on site.

Certain Advantage is partnering with a well-established engineering business to recruit an experienced HSE Officer. In this role, you will be responsible for creating safe working areas and stopping unsafe practices within a metal manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver hands-on HSE training and guidance to managers and staff as needed.
• Prepare, check and update risk assessments, safe work methods and operational controls; drive closure of all associated actions.
• Conduct weekly health and safety audits and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
• Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, near misses and environmental events; determine root causes and implement proportionate corrective and preventive measures.
• Oversee emergency preparedness, including fire safety, spill response, first-aid coordination and evacuation exercises.
• Encourage workforce engagement and proactive reporting through safety meetings and continuous-improvement initiatives.
• Keep an up-to-date register of all hazardous substances used or stored on site.

Your Background:

• Experience in ISO 14001 audits (preparation, execution and action tracking); support compliance with environmental permits, waste regulations and internal procedures.
• Experience in supervising waste segregation, storage, transfer and disposal; liaising with licensed contractors and maintaining all statutory records.
• NEBOSH, IOSH, or similar certification.
