Job summary

Sigma Recruitment Limited advertises an HSE Officer role in Barry, South Wales. You’ll be the visible voice for health, safety and environment on site, reporting to the HSE Manager and driving improvements across 60% health and safety and 40% environment.

You’ll lead audits, inspections and incident investigations, manage environmental permits and waste, deliver inductions and toolbox talks, and support ISO45001/ISO14001 compliance.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) required.
• Experience in SH&E within manufacturing or industrial operations.
• Knowledge of ISO45001 and ISO14001.
• Experience with audits, inspections and behavioural safety.

Responsibilities

• Carry out site audits, safety tours, inspections and behavioural safety conversations.
• Manage environmental compliance including permits, waste management, packaging regulations, and Climate Change Agreement.
• Oversee ISO45001 and ISO14001 requirements from audits to accreditation.
• Support Process Safety Management tasks including risk assessments, MOC, PSI reviews, PSSR, and PHA.
• Develop and deliver HSE inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness training to on-site groups.
• Investigate incidents and conduct root-cause analyses; compile monthly safety metrics.

What You’ll Do as the HSE Officer

Working alongside the HSE Manager, you’ll keep the site’s safety and environmental systems running well. The split is roughly 60% health and safety, 40% environment. You will carry out site audits, safety tours, inspections and behavioural safety conversations out on the plant; manage environmental compliance, including permits, waste management, packaging regulations, and the Climate Change Agreement; look after ISO45001 and ISO14001 requirements, from audits and documentation to accreditation; support Process Safety Management tasks, including risk assessments, MOC, PSI reviews, PSSR, and PHA work; develop and deliver HSE inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness training to on‑site groups; investigate incidents, conduct root‑cause analyses, and compile the monthly safety metrics.

What You’ll Need

NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent), with a working grasp of risk assessment, COSHH, permit‑to‑work and safe systems of work. Hands‑on experience in an SH&E, HSE or health and safety officer role, within manufacturing or industrial operations. Practical experience of audits, inspections and behavioural safety, plus working knowledge of ISO45001 and ISO14001.
