HSE Manager (BESS Health, Safety & Environmental Manager) North of England

Offering Circa. £60,000 - £80,000 Basic Salary plus Excellent Benefits!

Our client is focused on driving the transition to a sustainable energy future. Currently recruiting a HSE Manager to provide project management services for a portfolio of battery storage assets. The role requires a proactive leader who can establish robust safety cultures and management styles to minimise risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote environmental stewardship.

The HSE Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental management systems specific to battery energy storage construction projects.

HSE Manager – Key Responsibilities

HSE Strategy & Leadership:

    • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive HSE management systems tailored for both UK and European battery energy storage construction projects.
    • Advising the Senior Management team on all QESH matters and help drive business initiatives that result in meeting organisational targets and customer satisfaction.
    • Lead the creation of a safety-first culture by fostering employee engagement and ownership of safety practices.
    • Apply diverse management styles (transformational, participative, coaching) to inspire compliance and continuous improvement in HSE performance.

Safety Management & Risk Control:

    • Provide technical expertise and consultation to sites on HSE topics.
    • Conduct thorough risk assessments, hazard identifications, and develop mitigation plans specific to electrical engineering hazards associated with battery storage systems.
    • Oversee safety audits, inspections, incident investigations, and ensure corrective actions are executed promptly.
    • Implement behaviour-based safety programs to proactively address at-risk behaviours on-site.

Training & Development:

    • Design and deliver comprehensive HSE training programs addressing battery technology risks, construction safety, emergency response, and environmental protection.
    • Coach site supervisors and project teams on safe work practices and effective safety leadership.

Compliance & Reporting:

    • Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal HSE regulations and industry standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 855, IEC standards).
    • Prepare and present regular HSE performance reports to senior management and stakeholders.
    • Lead environmental impact assessments and implement sustainability initiatives to minimize environmental footprint.

HSE Manager – Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Proven experience gained within power generation, renewable generation, battery storage, or electrical construction sectors would be highly advantageous.
  • Experienced in developing safety management systems and cultivating safety culture on complex construction sites.
  • Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.

The HSE Manager position is offering Circa. £60,000 - £80,000 basic salary plus excellent benefits for the successful candidate. This is a full-time, permanent position, supporting HSE of energy storage construction projects in the North of England.
