Job summary

Subsea7 is seeking an HSE Manager to join our UK & Global IRM team, based at Westhill, Aberdeen. The role involves international travel and visits to onshore/offshore sites regionally, with occasional short-term stays.

You will lead the UKGIRM HSEQ function, promote a positive HSE culture, and ensure regulatory compliance. You will develop country leadership, mentor HSE leads, and drive performance improvements across the region.

Subsea7 is looking for a Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager to join our UK & Global IRM team on a full-time, permanent basis located in our Westhill, Aberdeen office. The role will involve international travel and occasional visits to onshore and offshore worksites regionally with the possibility of short-term stays.

The role will form a key part of the UK and Global IRM (UKGIRM) HSEQ management team, providing leadership on all aspects of the region’s HSE performance. The position is the global focal point for all HSE matters within the UKGIRM team and is primarily focussed on maintaining HSE performance improvement and promoting a positive HSE culture within the region.

The HSE Manager will provide functional support to the Country HSE Leads within UKGIRM to ensure adequate HSE resources are maintained to meet regulatory requirements and Subsea7 HSE policies, standards, and procedures. They will ensure that the Subsea7 Group vision, and Group and regional business and HSEQ strategies, are understood by the Country HSE Leads and incorporated within country delivery plans.

The chosen candidate is responsible for the professional and operational experience development of the Country HSE Leads and will ensure that the careers of the team are managed in a way which promotes their advancement through the function.

What will you be doing?

The role of HSE Manager will be highly varied, but some of the key responsibilities include:

• Contribute to the development of the regional HSEQ strategy and support the UK&GIRM HSEQ Director in monitoring and reporting HSE performance against strategy and targets. Develop and implement region level improvement plans as required.
• Provide technical input to the development and maintenance of the Business Management System and oversee management of regional HSE documents.
• Directly manage the schedule and agenda of pre-LMT and LMT reviews. Participate in reviews, oversee Verification of Effectiveness of actions and performance reporting including trending, and implementation of associated regional level action.
• Oversee the development of the Worksite Readiness programme and assignment of teams to support delivery. Manage delivery of the programme to schedule and reporting in Synergi.
• Review HSE resource plan with Country HSE Leads to monitor deployment and utilisation of team members to Projects and functional responsibilities.
• Ensure an increasing focus on the environment, health, and wellbeing and work with the UKGIRM HSEQ Director to develop regional plans to support.
• Monitor and contribute to the development of the Country HSE Leads ensuring roles and responsibilities are clearly understood, and performance and developmental objectives are effectively evaluated through use of Compass.
• Provide recruitment support to maintain adequate HSE resource levels at Country Leads level.
• Manage and deliver the HSE audit programme for the region. Liaise with the quality team and Country HSE Leads to track progress and review trends in findings to support continuous improvement.
• Oversee the regional emergency response exercise schedule and work with the Country HSE Leads to ensure country level inputs.
• Provide support to the UKGIRM HSEQ Director and Quality Manager with HSE input to Management Reviews and implementation of continuous improvement action as required.
• Liaise with Quality, Supply Chain Management and Engineering to review HSE performance of key suppliers and support with assessments and audits, and development of improvement plans as required.
• Support with HSE external audits including third party certification, local authority, and client audits.
• Oversee incident and near miss investigations, supporting and coaching the appointed team as required. Oversee and participate in investigations as required.
• Oversee HSE input into all tendering activity in the region.
• Liaise with external regulators such as the Health and Safety Executive Diving Inspectors and Scottish Environment Protection Agency. Responsible for regulatory reporting.

What experience would we like you to have?

• Relevant extensive experience within an HSE based role in the subsea or wider energy industry, including working knowledge of EPIC and IRM Projects and operations. This should include experience of managing and developing a team of HSE personnel.
• Chartered Member of Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) or working towards.
• Comprehensive technical knowledge of HSE risk management and change management processes.
• Experienced Lead Auditor.
• Extensive incident investigation and management experience including root cause analysis.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams, creating a positive culture through coaching, mentoring, and effective performance management.
• Capable of managing multiple interfaces across the organisation and with clients, and able to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels, including senior leadership.
• Able to demonstrate well-developed organisational skills and adopt efficient, smart working methods to deliver projects effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to assess workload demands, prioritize assignments, and distribute responsibilities effectively to support on-time project completion.
