Job description

Are you a proven HSE Lead / HSEQ Lead with experience delivering results on a COMAH site or similarly high-hazard, highly regulated environment, ready to take ownership of safety and quality performance on a major project in the nuclear/defence sector?

Do you have the credibility to influence senior stakeholders, lead multi-discipline teams, and drive measurable HSEQ system and behavioural improvements across a complex operational business?

This is a senior, visible role where you’ll set direction, raise standards, and leave a genuine legacy—if you’re looking for a role with real accountability, pace, and impact, read on.

The Opportunity

Join an established engineering organisation operating in a high-compliance environment where safety, quality, and assurance are treated as business-critical—not box-ticking. You’ll be supported by engaged leadership, empowered to implement meaningful improvements, and given the platform to influence culture across a sizeable workforce and supply chain. The environment is professional, structured, and delivery-focused, with clear expectations and the backing to make change happen.

The Role

As the HSEQ Lead, you will lead the development and delivery of the business’s health, safety, environmental and quality approach ensuring standards are met, risks are controlled, and a consistent culture of safe and quality-focused behaviours is embedded.

Your duties and responsibilities will be
  • Leading HSE strategy, policies, programmes, and initiatives aligned to current and future business needs
  • Monitoring and improving HSE systems, standards, and behaviours to meet regulatory and corporate requirements
  • Developing and delivering audit programmes and management plans to ensure safe, compliant, quality delivery
  • Driving innovation and continuous improvement initiatives to uplift HSEQ performance across the organisation
  • Owning and enhancing quality management and H&S systems, practices, and procedures
  • Acting as the senior HSEQ representative with the client and wider stakeholders, providing assurance and technical input
  • Partnering with leadership teams to consistently promote and role model HSEQ culture
  • Building and developing the HSE function: structure, capability, recruitment, performance, and succession planning
You will have the following qualifications & experience
  • Proven senior-level HSEQ leadership experience within a COMAH site or other high-hazard / heavily regulated industry
  • Proven track record delivering successful HSEQ system and process improvements
  • Extensive experience leading and developing Safety and Quality teams
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt your approach for different audiences
  • Degree-qualified (or equivalent level of underpinning technical knowledge)
  • IOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and CMIOSH
  • Lead Assessor qualification (e.g., ISAS or equivalent)
  • CCNSG
