Job summary

A leading construction materials company is seeking an HSE Improvement Specialist to develop and manage health and safety policies. This role offers remote working with occasional travel and involves conducting audits and maintaining safety accreditations. Some accountabilities of the role:

  • Develop, in conjunction with the HSE Manager (Policy, Risk and Assurance) and the wider HSE Leadership Team, specific Health and Safety policies ensuring they are both robust and practical.
  • Undertake reviews of current and proposed safety policies and initiatives, liaising with the relevant suppliers and reviewing data to support recommendations.
  • Carry out on-site or desktop audits of the update and quality of the current Group policies and standards, and outline any technical improvements or highlight gaps.
  • Engage in the delivery of the Group’s 3rd line of defence safety assurance reviews, which may include taking on the lead auditor role, and prepare reports for the GLT and Plc Stay Safe Committee.
  • Maintain the Group Safety Management System and ensure that the information displayed is accurate and reflective of the business's approach and policies.
  • Manage the Group’s external safety accreditations, including renewal processes (e.g., CHAS, SMAS, SafeContractor). This includes engaging with senior stakeholders across the Group such as safety leads and the Group Sustainability Director to establish the feasibility and impact of achieving such accreditations.

Required qualifications:

NVQ Level 4 or 5 in Occupational H&S or equivalent.
