Job summary

Gates in Dumfries is seeking a Modern Apprentice HSE Co-Ordinator to support Health, Safety, Environmental and Continuous Improvement initiatives while completing a recognised apprenticeship. You will work with the HSE Officer and operations to promote safety, sustainability and efficient processes on site.

The role provides practical experience across risk assessment, training, documentation and data reporting, with exposure to audits and ISO standards in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

  • National 5 qualifications, including English and Mathematics.
  • Commitment to complete a recognised Modern Apprenticeship.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer literacy, including MS Office.
  • Exposure to manufacturing/engineering environments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support risk assessments, safe systems of work, PPE assessments, and COSHH documentation.
  • Assist in maintaining accident, incident, near-miss, and safety records.
  • Assist with environmental monitoring, waste management and sustainability initiatives.
  • Help run HSE induction programmes and safety communications.
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement projects.
  • Support data collection and monthly HSE reporting activities.
  • Assist audits, inspections, and corrective actions.
