Job description

The HSE Advisor provides professional expert knowledge and guidance to managers, supervisors, employees, and contractors on safe work practices, legal regulations, and industry best practices. The role supports proactive risk identification, promotes a strong safety culture, and ensures appropriate control measures are implemented and maintained.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive and promote a proactive HSE culture through leadership, awareness, and knowledge sharing.
  • Support the development, implementation, and use of safety systems and HSE documentation, including instructions, contingency plans, and risk assessments.
  • Facilitate and participate in HSE meetings, Toolbox Talks, safety walks, inspections, and safety campaigns.
  • Conduct HSE inductions and presentations at kickoff meetings.
  • Monitor and assess HSE performance and compliance using data and reporting tools.
  • Coordinate and report on incident investigations, root cause analyses, and follow-up actions.
  • Liaise effectively with contractors and internal stakeholders to improve health, safety, and environmental performance.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, and support implementation of audit findings and NCRs.
  • Provide day-to-day HSE guidance and support to all site personnel.
  • Maintain own safety certifications and ensure continued professional development.
Deliverables
  • HSE meeting facilitation with contractors and project representatives
  • Review of Risk Assessed Method Statements (RAMS)
  • HSE induction and training sessions
  • Incident and proactive measure reporting using designated tools
  • HSE walk reports and operational HSE assessments
  • Other deliverables in line with project HSE risk management and frameworks
Decision-Making Authority

While the HSE function does not solely determine HSE performance, the advisor acts as a subject matter expert and provides informed guidance based on their understanding of the business and its processes.

Job requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ HSE experience, ideally in onshore renewables or windfarm construction
  • NEBOSH (minimum Level 3) or similar recognized HSE qualification
  • Demonstrable experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Experience managing HSE interactions with contractors
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant safety legislation, including CDM Regulations 2015
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with HSE data systems (e.g., Synergi) is an advantage
  • Valid UK driving license
  • Current and in-date site safety passport (e.g., CCNSG or CSCS)
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree or diploma in QHSE or equivalent Level 6 qualification
  • Environmental management qualifications (NEBOSH or IEMA)
  • Qualified auditor (e.g., ISO 9001/14001/45001/55001)
  • Experience delivering training or HSE briefings
  • Familiarity with cable route and National Grid interface scope work
Working Conditions
  • On-site role based in Swardeston, Norwich
  • Required to be on site or at the site office daily
  • Occasional travel for internal or external meetings, possibly including overseas travel
  • IT equipment provided
  • Some flexibility for remote working, subject to management approval
