Job summary

Coventry City Council is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join its Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing Service.

You will provide professional, practical and consistent health and safety advice across allocated Council services, working with managers, HR colleagues and Trade Union representatives to identify and control risks through workplace inspections, risk assessments, audits and incident investigations.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH Diploma - certificate required.
• IOSH membership, ideally CMIOSH or equivalent.
• Experience with risk assessments, inspections, audits and investigations.
• Ability to interpret legislation and provide practical H&S advice.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional health and safety advice to managers and employees across service areas.
• Undertake workplace inspections, audits and reviews of H&S management systems.
• Identify hazards, assess risks and advise on controls using the hierarchy of controls.
• Review risk assessments and ensure suitable controls are implemented.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses and identify root causes.
• Review data, identify trends and recommend preventative measures.
• Advise on emergency procedures, fire drills and evacuation arrangements.
• Prepare reports and technical information for managers and senior stakeholders.
• Support managers and Trade Union safety representatives with inspections.
• Collaborate with Occupational Health, Risk Management and HR teams.
