Job summary

First Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to support a PPE Programme across multiple engineering projects. The role focuses on ensuring safety, health, and environmental protection for staff and contractors, in line with Our Client's management arrangements.

Hybrid working in Warrington, Bristol, Leicester or Newbury, Active SC clearance required with potential to progress to DV. UK nationals preferred. NEBOSH certs and IOSH CPD are desired qualifications.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation and standards.
• Proven ability to solve complex problems with minimal supervision.
• Experience analysing information from multiple sources to support decisions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced colleagues.
• NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent).
• Tech IOSH membership and active CPD participation.
• Good knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor to support the Process, Plant & Engineering (PP&E) Programme within our client's organisation. This programme comprises multiple engineering projects requiring input from Suitably Qualified and Experienced Persons (SQEP) throughout the project lifecycle.

As the HSE Advisor, you will support the management team in ensuring the safety, health, and environmental protection of employees, contractors, and visitors, while maintaining compliance with Our Client's Health, Safety and Environmental management arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide assurance of compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation, standards, and company procedures.
• Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of HSE policies, processes, and best practices.
• Conduct risk assessments and proactively identify hazards and mitigation measures.
• Develop and deliver safety training, awareness, and engagement programmes.
• Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and support corrective actions.
• Collaborate with programme teams and stakeholders to ensure HSE considerations are embedded into project activities.
• Support the development and execution of strategies to manage operational risks across engineering and project environments.
• Monitor and promote continual improvement in health, safety, and environmental performance.

Essential Experience & Skills

• Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation, regulations, and standards.
• Proven ability to solve complex problems with minimal supervision.
• Experience analysing information from multiple sources to make sound decisions and recommendations.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong problem-solving and organisational abilities.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a dynamic project environment.
• Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced colleagues and explaining complex or sensitive information effectively.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

• Experience within the Nuclear sector or another highly regulated, high-hazard industry.
• Industrial safety experience.
• Degree qualification in Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent).
• Auditor qualification and/or audit experience.
• Minimum Tech IOSH membership and active participation in an appropriate CPD scheme.
• Good working knowledge and practical application of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
• Demonstrated track record in a similar HSE advisory role.

Mandatory Qualifications

Candidates must hold:

• NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent qualification).
