Job summary

Framatome UK is seeking an HSE Advisor to join the Quality, Health, Safety and Environment team at Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater. The role focuses on health and safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance for nuclear operations.

You will assess risks, develop control measures, deliver training, maintain records, and contribute to emergency planning, incident investigations, and continuous improvement in a demanding, highly regulated industry.

Qualifications

• On-site maintenance, manufacturing, fabrication and erection exposure including lifting operations.

Responsibilities

• Advise management to ensure activities comply with laws and policies.
• Interface with regulatory authorities during inspections and reporting.
• Conduct risk assessments for radiological, chemical, biological, and conventional hazards.
• Recommend and implement control measures to mitigate risks.
• Monitor permit-to-work systems for high-risk activities.
• Assist immediate response to HSE incidents and investigations.
• Lead investigations into incidents and near-misses and implement corrective actions.
• Disseminate lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
• Develop and deliver HSE training and induction programs.
• Maintain records of risk assessments, incidents, training and inspections.
• Contribute to development of HSE procedures and emergency plans.
• Organize and evaluate emergency drills; track HSE performance indicators.
• Stay updated on national and international HSE regulations relevant to nuclear operations.
• Advise employees and managers on HSE matters and communicate with external stakeholders.

We are currently seeking a HSE Advisor to join our team in Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater to play a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of personnel, protecting the environment, and maintaining compliance with rigorous regulatory standards. This position requires a strong understanding of both general and nuclear-specific HSE risks, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement

What will you be doing?

• Advise management and operational teams to ensure all activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Support interactions with regulatory authorities during inspections, audits, and reporting.
• Conduct regular risk assessments to identify radiological, chemical, biological, and conventional hazards in the workplace.
• Recommend and help implement effective control measures to mitigate identified risks, ensuring the safety of employees and the public.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of permit-to-work systems for high-risk activities.
• Assist in the immediate response to HSE incidents, including containment, notification, and initial investigation.
• Participate in or lead investigations into incidents and near-misses, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
• Help disseminate lessons learned from incidents to prevent recurrence.
• Develop and deliver HSE training and induction programs for employees and contractors as required.
• Conduct regular workplace inspections and safety tours to monitor compliance with HSE standards and identify unsafe conditions or behaviours.
• Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of risk assessments, incidents, training, inspections, and regulatory submissions.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of HSE procedures, policies, and manuals.
• Contribute to the development, review, and testing of emergency response plans.
• Participate in organising and evaluating emergency drills to ensure readiness.
• Track HSE performance indicators, analyse trends, and recommend improvements.
• Stay up to date with national and international HSE regulations and standards relevant to nuclear operations
• Stay informed of industry best practices and support their implementation within the organisation.
• Advise and support employees, supervisors, and managers on HSE matters.
• Assist in communicating HSE performance and initiatives to external stakeholders, including contractors, regulators, and the local community.

Profile

What are we looking for?

• Experience of set up and implementing processes and procedures.
• On-site experience of maintenance, manufacturing, fabrication and erection including lifting operations,
• Excellent team working skills
• The ability to work with minimum supervision and intervention
• Ability to take responsibility for problems within their own remit and to deliver solutions
• Results focused with the ability to meet commitments and deadlines.
• Determination - not easily discouraged or put off

Work pattern: On Site

Training and Development Expectations:

• NEBOSH certificate
• Experience in Accident / Incident Investigation /Problem solving
• Experience in highly regulated industries preferred.
• Experience of Nuclear or other high risk, high regulated industry is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of Post weld heat treatment an advantage.Understanding of the key attributes of nuclear safety culture
• Demonstrable field engagement (site)
• Experience in Project delivery, (or relevant challenging environment)
