Job summary

Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a delivery driver to support wards, clinics and theatres. You will perform daily vehicle checks, maintain cleanliness, refuel, and report issues.

You’ll work as a lone worker, planning each day and adapting to ad hoc deliveries. External training for tug truck, handling heavy loads, cleaning and sterilisation of instruments, HTM guidelines, spillage kit training, and logbook records are part of the role.

Qualifications

• Must have a clean driving licence enabling driver 3.5 ton vehicle
• Ability to plan and prioritise deliveries as a lone worker
• Safety awareness and ability to follow HTM guidelines

Responsibilities

• Communicate with wards, clinics and public throughout the day
• Carry out daily vehicle checks and log them for supervisor
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and fuel level and report issues
• Log vehicle information in the office
• Ensure readiness of tug truck and undertake external training
• Assist with cleaning, packing and sterilisation of instruments
• Prepare for washing contaminated medical devices and dismantling complex instrumentation as required
• Inspect medical devices and equipment for cleanliness, function and identification against tray lists
• Wrap instrumentation sets according to HTM guidelines and HSDU procedures

Job description

1. To communication throughout the day to wards, clinics and public.
2. Must have a clean drivers licence that allows driver 3.5 ton vehicle
3. To maintain the vehicle by carrying out daily checks that has to be logged, reporting those to the supervisor/deputy manager.
4. Log information in relation to the vehicle that is kept in the office
5. Make sure the vehicle is clean and is filled with fuel.
6. Carrying out daily checks on tug truck.
7. Driver will have to have external training before use of tug truck
8. Will be expected to use their own judgement when carrying out the role as lone worker. This could include changing times of deliveries to clinics on and off site, Theatres, which could mean cancelling a delivery slot.
9. Plan the events of each day due to adhoc requirements from users
10. Trained on how to use spillage kit when out in the vehicle.
11. Will need to be able to push and pull heavy loads on an off the vehicle
12. Will be trained in cleaning, packing and sterilisation of instruments
13. Preparation for washing contaminated medical devices which include dismantling of complex instrumentation in accordance of manufacturers instructions and HTM guidelines.
14. Inspection of medical devices and other associated equipment for cleanliness, functionability, completeness, assembly and identification against tray specification lists.
15. Wrapping of instrumentation sets and other surgical equipment in accordance with HTM guidelines and HSDU policies and procedures.
