Job summary

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Decontamination Technician to join the Decontamination Unit. The role involves cleaning, inspecting, assembling, packing, sterilising and distributing surgical equipment for supply to wards, theatres and endoscopy.

Band 3 salary £25,760–£27,476 per annum, 37.5 hours per week with flexible working options. A comprehensive in-house training programme will be provided; the role is physically demanding with lifting and long periods

Responsibilities

  • Clean, inspect, assemble, pack, sterilise and distribute surgical equipment for wards, theatres and endoscopy.
  • Support supply to Wards, Departments, Theatres and Endoscopy.
  • Transport theatre equipment around the hospital using trolleys.
  • Work in a physically demanding role with lifting and standing for long periods.
  • Participate in the in-house training programme and complete it.
  • Department operates 6 days a week with an on-call service.

The Decontamination Unit provides a vital service reprocessing surgical instruments for use in all wards and departments within the trust.

You will be involved in the cleaning, inspecting, assembling, packing, sterilising and distributing surgical equipment for supply to Wards, Departments, Theatres and Endoscopy.

Successful candidates will require attention to detail & an eagerness and ability to learn.

A comprehensive in house training programme is in operation which successful candidates will be expected to take part in and complete.

The role is physically demanding, lifting and handling heavy instrument sets and long periods of standing. It is necessary to transport theatre equipment around the hospital using trolleys.

As a clinical support service the department is operational 6 days a week, supported by an on-call service to meet the demands of the hospital.

Shift Pattern
  • Early: 6am – 14.00pm
  • Late: 12am – 20.00pm
  • Saturday: 8am – 16.00pm - Every other week
