The HR and Training Advisor plays a vital role in the day-to-day functioning of the HR department, providing advice on training development, colleague engagement & well-being, recruitment, talent & succession, employee relations, reporting, and KPIs.

Act as a trusted advisor to the management team, offering strategic and consultative insights on the people agenda, processes, and HR best practices. You will assist hiring managers with recruitment, interview techniques, and job descriptions, and help review and develop company policies and procedures.

Tram Operations Limited (TOL) seeks a passionate, people-oriented HR and Training Advisor to support HR and learning & development initiatives for staff and stakeholders. Reporting to the HR People and Organisational Manager, you will ensure smooth HR operations.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in HR and Training Advisor roles, demonstrating proactivity, organizational skills, and accuracy. You will ensure staff engagement and training to meet organizational goals.

You will support the HR People and Organisational Manager and management team in overseeing approximately 300 staff across Tram Operations Limited (TOL) and First London Cableway (FLC), managing various organizational priorities.

You will be the first point of contact for recruitment stages, advising line managers, and managing onboarding. You may also handle employee relations and performance management, ensuring HR queries are addressed promptly and reliably.

Typical Responsibilities - include but are not limited to:

  • Providing professional HR advice and support, understanding all HR policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining current employment lifecycle information, including contracts, development reviews, and job descriptions.
  • Advising managers on recruitment and selection strategies to fill vacancies promptly.
  • Collaborating with FirstGroup recruitment team on campaigns and coordinating onboarding processes.
  • Managing pre-employment checks such as DBS, medicals, and references efficiently.
  • Identifying, creating, and delivering training based on development needs.
  • Supporting ER issues, including absence management, investigations, disciplinary actions, and tribunal cases.
  • Overseeing compliance with Trade Union regulations.
  • Utilizing HR systems to access, update, and compile data.
  • Ensuring governance of HR processes to maintain data accuracy and inform KPIs.
  • Monitoring compliance reports and training, following up on required actions.
  • Collaborating with managers on talent management and succession planning.

Additionally, you will participate in key projects such as:

  • Conducting surveys and developing action plans
  • Implementing and managing the new HRIS – Workday
  • Updating policies and procedures

Person Specification for the HR & Training Advisor:

Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as you will work with various levels across the organization. A solid knowledge of HR legislation and systems is required. Soft skills like self-confidence and persuasiveness are also important in this people-focused role.
