ABP UK is seeking an experienced HR Officer to lead the on-site HR function for a small team of around 60 employees. The role covers generalist HR, recruitment and retention, employee relations, wellbeing, and compliance with policies and employment law.

This part-time position (15 hours/week, Tue-Thu) offers flexibility and collaboration with central HR, L&D, and site management to deliver the People Strategy while ensuring accurate payroll input and timely HR reporting.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a HR generalist role.
  • Experience in the Food & Drink industry is preferable.
  • Working knowledge of UK Employment Law.
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills with flexibility.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive and able to deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance to managers on employee relations in line with policies and employment law.
  • Lead management of absence cases, including long-term sickness, coordinating with Occupational Health.
  • Oversee end-to-end recruitment across the site for timely, positive candidate experiences.
  • Drive delivery of the local People Strategy with central HR and L&D teams.
  • Ensure compliance with central HR standards and adapt processes locally.
  • Maintain HR systems and lead site-based HR projects to support objectives.
  • Prepare payroll inputs accurately and on time.
  • Produce and maintain HR metrics to inform decisions.

Are you an experienced HR professional looking for a rewarding role that offers flexibility, autonomy and the opportunity to make a real impact? We are seeking a dedicated HR Officer to provide comprehensive HR support to a small, friendly site team. The HR Officer will lead the HR function on site, delivering a comprehensive generalist service across all aspects of people management for a workforce of approximately 60 employees. This includes ownership and overseeing recruitment and retention, managing employee relations matters, supporting employee wellbeing, maintaining ethical standards, and leading absence management processes.

Acting as the first point of contact for all HR matters, you will provide professional advice and guidance to managers and key stakeholders, ensuring a consistent and best-practice approach across the site.

Hours of Work - This role offers a flexible working arrangement of 15 hours per week, typically spread across Tuesday to Thursday. We are open to discussing specific working patterns and hours with the successful candidate to support both business requirements and work-life balance.

Key Duties
  • Provide expert guidance to managers on employee relations matters, ensuring advice aligns with company policies, employment legislation, and best practice.
  • Lead the management of absence cases, including long-term sickness, supporting managers with case reviews and liaising with Occupational Health providers.
  • Oversee the full end-to-end recruitment process across the site, ensuring an efficient and positive candidate experience.
  • Drive the local delivery of the People Strategy, working closely with central HR and L&D teams to ensure effective implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with central HR standards, while identifying opportunities to improve and adapt processes locally.
  • Maintain HR systems and lead site-based HR projects to support operational and strategic objectives.
  • Support and lead internal and external audit processes, ensuring full compliance with requirements.
  • Contribute to the successful implementation of HR initiatives, ensuring clear communication and understanding across the site.
  • Lead employee engagement and recognition initiatives, supporting a positive workplace culture.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the site Senior Management Team on all people and development matters.
  • Work closely with agency labour providers to ensure compliance with policies, processes, and legal requirements.
  • Coordinate Employee Forum meetings, ensuring accurate documentation and tracking of actions.
  • Maintain and manage Modern Slavery processes and reporting in line with company standards.
  • Participate in weekly site meetings, ensuring people-related actions and projects are effectively tracked and progressed.
  • Prepare and submit relevant payroll inputs accurately and on time.
  • Produce and maintain accurate HR metrics to support informed decision-making.
Knowledge & Experience
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in a HR generalist role, previous experience in the Food and Drink industry is preferable
  • CIPD L5 qualified or working/willingness to work towards
  • Working knowledge of UK Employment Law
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, demonstrating flexibility towards changing business demands
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to delegate effectively when required
  • Proactive, dynamic and motivational with the ability to deliver results in a fast paced, pressurised environment
