HR Officer

We are seeking an experienced and proactive HR Officer to help shape the people strategy, drive recruitment, and support the well-being and development within an incredible charity.

Position: HR Officer

Salary: £31,922 per annum (pro-rata: £25,538 actual)

Location: The Vassall Centre, BS16 2QQ, with some off-site working

Hours: 21 hours per week (flexible working available)

Contract: 12 months fixed term

This is more than an administrative role; you will shape HR policies, drive recruitment and retention strategies, and promote a positive, inclusive workplace culture where people thrive. You’ll be part of a friendly and passionate team, working together to create lasting social impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead on recruitment and onboarding, ensuring the charity attracts and retains talented individuals.
  2. Provide expert advice on HR policies, employment law, and best practice.
  3. Play an active part in HR function improvement projects.
  4. Maintain accurate HR records, using BreatheHR and other systems.
  5. Support staff well-being through training, development, and engagement initiatives.
  6. Champion a culture of inclusion, fairness, and continuous learning.
  7. Work closely with senior leaders to ensure HR aligns with strategic goals.
  8. Provide HR support for volunteers, helping to build a thriving volunteer community.

About You

As HR Officer you will be an enthusiastic, people-focused HR professional who thrives in a purpose-driven environment. You will bring:

  1. Generalist HR experience, including recruitment, policies, and employee relations.
  2. A CIPD Level 5 qualification (or working towards it).
  3. A strong understanding of UK employment law and HR best practices.
  4. The ability to engage and advise senior managers with confidence.
  5. Experience working with HR systems, ideally BreatheHR.
  6. Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  7. A passion for creating a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace.
  8. An understanding of the charity or housing sector (desirable but not essential).
