Job Description

Job title: HR/Health & Safety Support Assistant

Location: Evenwood, County Durham

Hours: Monday to Thursday 08:00-16:30, Friday 08:00-13:00

Position reports to: HR Business Partner with a dotted line to the Group Head of Health & Safety

Main Purpose of the Job

The postholder will support the HR Business Partner for the site across all elements of the employee lifecycle and assist the Group Head of Health & Safety in providing guidance and support to Supervisors and employees on Health & Safety matters.

Key Areas of Responsibility
HR
  • Recruitment: Complete administration (forms, references, right to work checks, offer letters, contracts); collaborate with Hiring Managers on job adverts; manage external and internal job postings.
  • Onboarding: Support induction and training; complete post-employment Occupational Health referrals; administer employee benefits; set up new starters in HR systems.
  • Employee Relations: Take notes in disciplinary and grievance meetings; prepare invite letters, evidence packs, and outcome letters; escalate issues as needed.
  • Employee Changes: Process paperwork for changes in T&Cs; update HR system.
  • Training: Coordinate training courses; log training and issue certificates.
  • Absence Management: Assist with Occupational Health referrals; support return-to-work documentation; monitor absence line; produce reports.
  • Offboarding: Manage leaver paperwork; update employee benefits and HR systems.
  • Other HR Support: Assist with HR communications, general enquiries, org charts, bookings, and levy checks.
Health & Safety
  • Maintain and update the H&S system.
  • Identify training needs; participate in H&S meetings.
  • Support DSE assessments, accident files, and claims data gathering.
  • Assist with projects related to H&S.
Key Requirements
  • Experience in HR and H&S environments.
  • CIPD qualification or equivalent.
