Overview

Main purpose of the job: To support the work of the Group HR & Payroll Manager in providing a professional generalist HR service to managers and employees across the Group, embracing employee relations, bullying and harassment, recruitment and training and development. To deputise for the Group HR & Payroll Manager as required.

You will build positive working relationships with all managers and employees and will drive towards delivery of the Group’s strategic goals, whilst role-modelling our company values.

As a key member of the HR team, contribute to the development of HR policies and strategies and ensure these are implemented effectively and consistently within the Company.

Responsibilities
  • To provide advice to line managers and employees regarding HR policy, process, recruitment, training and development, payroll and employee relation issues.
  • To refer HR matters of strategy, queries of a complex nature to Group HR & Payroll Manager.
  • To develop tools and practices that assist managers to perform their roles.
  • To provide advice and support managers in handling employee relations issues, such as discipline, absence, capability and assist Managers in the preparation of case statements. To act as the Human Resources representative at formal hearings and meetings. To support the Group HR & Payroll Manager with complex cases and act as a note taker as required.
  • To manage an agreed case load of long and short term absence cases and provide advice to managers on all absence related matters in accordance with relevant policies and procedures. To reduce SRC sickness levels by proactive support to Management teams.
  • To assist with the roll out and implementation of Policies and Procedures as required to.
  • To generate reports, surveys and audits as required using the HRIS system.
  • To respond appropriately to all HR enquiries in a timely, informed, professional way to develop the role of HR and aid development of employee and decision making.
  • To be a proactive team member, travelling between locations as required to provide support as necessary
  • To promote best practice behaviours through expertise and up to date knowledge.
  • To support the Group HR & Payroll Manager to build the capability of managers to respond confidently to HR issues to support business needs.
  • To support the Group HR & Payroll Manager and managers with organisational change including TUPE processes.
  • Attend selection interviews as required and advise managers on fair and effective recruitment and selection practices.
  • To undertake any other associated HR tasks or projects as required by the Group HR & Payroll Manager in order to achieve the deliver of an efficient and proactive HR service.
  • Work in partnership with your business stakeholders to fully understand the key business performance issues, strategic development opportunities, objectives and drivers, and associated people requirements for both the current and future business challenges.
  • Understand and plan for cultural change and know how to gain commitment to change.
  • Act as a change agent in managing organisational change and related activities within your areas of accountability.
  • Coach managers to improve their people leadership skills.
  • Build and manage relationships with business leaders, our learning and development specialist and relevant external bodies.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Proven HR experience in recruitment, selection, employee relations, engagement, reward, performance management, talent management, succession planning, L&D, organisational development and design
  • Excellent working knowledge of employment law with the ability to apply it both practically and pragmatically to workplace situations
  • Strong communication skills
  • Intellectual curiosity, bringing valuable insight into the Business
  • Handling sensitive situations in a manner consistent with SRC values
  • Ability to review HR/financial data and business cases to contribute to discussions on future strategic and tactical business initiatives
  • Ability to champion and promote new ideas that meet our business needs

  • CIPD qualified
  • Strong IT application skills; experience of HRIS/T&A system development preferred
