Job summary

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is seeking an HR Business Partner to advise managers and senior leaders across designated departments on HR matters throughout the employee lifecycle.

The role focuses on complex employee relations, employment legislation, recruitment support, and driving continuous improvement to deliver a modern, responsive HR service.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practice

Responsibilities

  • Partner with managers to provide expert HR advice across employee relations
  • Lead and support complex casework including disciplinary, grievance and attendance issues
  • Build relationships with senior leaders and trade union representatives
  • Support recruitment and selection activities and advise on best practices
  • Develop HR solutions to promote engagement, wellbeing and positive workplace culture
  • Contribute to HR strategy, policy development and service improvement projects
  • Represent the Council at Employment Tribunals and formal proceedings when required

About the Role

As an HR Business Partner, you'll work closely with managers and senior leaders across designated Council departments, providing expert advice and guidance across the full employee lifecycle.

From supporting complex employee relations matters and advising on employment legislation to leading recruitment processes, developing managers and driving continuous improvement, you'll play a key role in delivering a modern, responsive and professional HR service.

What You'll Be Doing

You’ll:

  • Partner with managers to provide expert advice across a wide range of HR and employee relations matters.
  • Lead and support complex casework including disciplinary, grievance, dignity at work, attendance management and capability.
  • Build strong relationships with senior leaders, managers and trade union representatives.
  • Support recruitment and selection activities, including chairing interview panels and advising on best practice.
  • Work collaboratively to develop practical HR solutions that promote engagement, wellbeing and positive workplace cultures.
  • Analyse HR data and prepare reports to support informed decision-making.
  • Support organisational change, workforce planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to HR strategy, policy development and service improvement projects.
  • Represent the Council professionally at Employment Tribunals and other formal proceedings where required.
