Job description
Overview

An experienced HR Business Partner with NHS experience is sought to join the Human Resources Business Partnering team at University Hospitals Sussex. The post is based across UHSussex sites and may require travel between Royal Sussex County Hospital, Worthing Hospital and St Richard’s Hospital. The role is part-time with potential for some home working depending on service needs.

Job responsibilities
  • Provide professional and customer-focused HR leadership, advice and support to Divisional leads and managers to help improve and support staff engagement, address workforce issues, enhance patient care and efficiencies, and achieve divisional and people objectives.
  • Influence and support the strategic direction of the Division by providing expert HR advice and workforce information at a Divisional level to help facilitate achievement of Workforce KPIs, including recruitment and retention plans, sickness absence management, and reducing bank and agency expenditure. Provide HRBP analysis and monthly reports as required, focusing on hotspot areas.
  • Lead on providing professional senior HR support and coaching to improve divisional staff engagement and staff survey results, resolve workforce issues and improve people metrics.
  • Lead on specific HR projects to enable the Trust to deliver workforce initiatives, maintain up-to-date knowledge of NHS employment legislation and good practice, and adopt related developments.
  • Design and deliver HR training sessions to improve manager awareness and capability and support the rollout of HR initiatives.
  • Contribute to the formulation and implementation of HR policies and procedures; research and draft HR policies, toolkits, guidance and standard operating procedures as required; may be allocated SOPs to review/maintain in line with legislation, learning, or changes in practice.

Person specification

Essential

  • Educated to a Master’s or equivalent level in an HR-related subject
  • Significant HR Business Partnering experience addressing workforce issues in the NHS
  • Experience of providing HR support for divisional restructuring exercises
  • Experience in analysis of staffing data and leading the design of people-related improvement plans

Desirable

  • CIPD qualified – Associate level or above
  • Experience of utilising service improvement methodologies (e.g., Kaizen)
  • Understanding of current NHS issues
