Overview

HR Assistant (PART-TIME). Our client, a reputable law firm, is seeking a dedicated and professional HR Assistant to join the team. This is a part-time role (3 days per week) and will be based in Eastbourne. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the legal and support teams with a wide range of HR responsibilities. It is an excellent opportunity for a professional who is looking to develop their HR career within a supportive and reputable legal environment. The salary listed for this job is a full-time equivalent, and will be pro-rata'd for the 3 days per week.

Responsibilities
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding process for legal and support staff, including drafting contracts, offer letters, and carrying out pre-employment checks.
  • Maintain and update employee records and HR systems, ensuring compliance with GDPR and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with performance reviews, training records, and professional development programmes.
  • Provide first-line advice on HR policies, procedures, absence management, and employee relations, escalating where necessary.
  • Support payroll and benefits administration, ensuring accuracy of staff data.
  • Assist with compliance checks such as right-to-work, DBS and reference checks.
  • Coordinate staff training, CPD, wellbeing and diversity initiatives.
  • Act as the first point of contact for day-to-day HR queries, delivering a professional and confidential service.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in a HR Assistant role; prior experience within a law firm or professional services is desirable but not essential.
  • If you do not have law firm experience, you must have completed your CIPD qualification (Level 3 minimum).
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • A confident communicator with the ability to work with staff at all levels.
  • Professional, discreet, and able to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Proficiency in IT systems, including HR databases and Microsoft Office.
