Job summary

Bouygues Travaux Publics is seeking a People Advisor to provide proactive HR support for the Lower Thames Crossing contract on the Tilbury site. You will work with managers and employees to apply policies and deliver people solutions across the lifecycle.

The role requires experience in a people advisory or generalist function, strong communication and stakeholder management, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion. On-site office-based role with occasional travel.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a people advisory, people operations or generalist role.
  • Understanding of employee lifecycle processes and employment legislation principles
  • Ability to advise managers on day-to-day people matters with discretion
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management to build trusted relationships
  • High attention to detail and compliant people records
  • MS Office proficiency (Excel/Word/Outlook) and ability to manage priorities

Responsibilities

  • Act as a key contact for BMJV managers and employees, providing HR advice
  • Advise on policies and escalate complex matters to the People Lead
  • Support employee relations including absence, conduct, capability, performance and informal resolution
  • Coach line managers to manage people matters effectively and in line with BMJV expectations
  • Support onboarding and mobilisation activities with managers and stakeholders
  • Oversee right-to-work, visa processes, documentation tracking and audit readiness
  • Prepare and issue starter contracts and set up new recruits in systems
  • Support engagement, inclusion, wellbeing and retention initiatives
  • Support HR process cycle, annual pay review and appraisal
  • Contribute to workforce planning and resource tracking across the project
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes and support improvements
  • Collaborate with People & Culture, line managers, parent company and Client Team

Job Title: People Advisor
Reporting to: People Lead
The Role

The People Advisor will provide proactive, professional and practical HR support for the Tunnels & Approaches contract on the Lower Thames Crossing project . Working closely with managers and employees, the role will deliver effective people solutions across the employee lifecycle, ensuring processes are applied consistently, remain legally compliant and align with BMJV’s values, client expectations and project objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a key point of contact for BMJV managers and employees, providing timely, professional and solutions-focused HR advice
  • Advise managers on the application of people policies, procedures and best practice, escalating complex matters to the People Lead where appropriate
  • Support employee relations matters including absence, conduct, capability, performance and informal resolution, ensuring a fair and consistent approach
  • Coach and guide line managers to build confidence in managing people matters effectively and in line with BMJV expectations
  • Support end-to-end onboarding and mobilisation activity, working with managers, new starters and relevant stakeholders to deliver a positive employee experience
  • Oversee and support compliance requirements including right-to-work, visa process, documentation tracking, competency validation and audit readiness
  • Prepare and issue new starter contracts and ensure new recruits are set up accurately on relevant systems ahead of their start date
  • Support engagement, inclusion, wellbeing and retention initiatives, helping to create a positive and collaborative project culture
  • Support the HR process cycle, annual pay review, appraisal etc
  • Contribute to workforce planning activity by supporting resource tracking, starters, leavers and changes across the project
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, systems and ways of working, supporting implementation of improvements where required
  • Work collaboratively with the wider People & Culture team, line managers, parent company stakeholders and the Client Team to deliver consistent people support
  • Support delivery of People KPIs, project priorities and wider People & Culture objectives across BMJV
Essential Skills & Experience:
  • Previous experience in a people advisory, people operations or generalist role
  • Good understanding of employee lifecycle processes and employment legislation principles
  • Experience advising managers and employees on day-to-day people matters, with the confidence to escalat complex matters appropriately
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism, discretion and sound judgement
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted working relationships
  • High attention to detail, accuracy and ability to maintain compliant people records
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Desirable:
  • Experience in construction, major projects or joint venture environments
  • CIPD qualification or working towards CIPD accreditation
  • Experience supporting employee relations casework, engagement initiatives or workforce planning activity
  • Proficient in Power BI or other reporting tools
  • Digital mindset, with the ability to quickly learn new systems and support process improvement
