Job summary

Quanex is seeking a proactive HR Advisor to join our UK HR team in Wolverhampton. You will be a key contact for managers and employees, providing expert advice on employee relations, absence and performance management, and fair, compliant outcomes.

You will support the People Strategy projects, use HR data to inform planning, assist onboarding and payroll data handling with our outsourced provider, and travel monthly to our Carlisle site.

Qualifications

  • CIPD Level 5 or equivalent HR qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practices.
  • Experience managing employee relations casework independently.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel, and experienced with HRIS systems.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary contact for managers and employees on HR queries.
  • Advise on and manage employee relations cases from start to finish.
  • Coach managers to build capability and handle sensitive matters while understanding risks and implications.
  • Support the HR Business Partner and wider HR team on People Strategy projects.
  • Utilise HR data and metrics to monitor trends and inform planning.
  • Support the implementation and consistent application of HR policies and procedures.
  • Assist onboarding, induction, probation and other HR processes as needed.
  • Maintain HRIS records in GDPR compliance.
  • Prepare HR reports and analytics for decision-making.
  • Assist monthly payroll data with outsourced provider and resolve payroll queries.

Job description

How the role will make an impact:

We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable HR Advisor to join our dynamic HR team. In this role, you will act as a key point of contact for HR-related queries, providing expert advice and support to managers and employees across the business. You will play a vital part in contributing to ER initiatives that support our people strategy and organisational goals.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for managers and employees regarding HR-related queries and concerns.
  • Advise on and manage employee relations cases from start to finish, including disciplinary procedures, grievance cases, performance management and absence management, ensuring fair, consistent and legally compliant outcomes.
  • Coach managers to build capability, encouraging them to think through issues and giving them confidence and knowledge to handle difficult and sensitive matters whilst ensuring they fully understand the risks and implications.
  • Support the HR Business Partner and wider HR team in delivering People Strategy projects, including employee engagement, wellbeing initiatives, change management activities and learning and development support.
  • Focus on continuous improvement by using HR data and metrics to monitor and report on trends that inform strategic HR planning.
  • Support the implementation and consistent application of HR policies and procedures.
  • Support the employee life cycle by assisting with onboarding, induction, probation and other HR processes as needed.
  • Ensure the HRIS system is accurately maintained and up to date, managing employee records in compliance with GDPR and data protection standards.
  • Prepare HR reports and analytics to inform decision-making.
  • Assist in the monthly payroll process by maintaining accurate employee data within the HRIS, preparing and validating payroll schedules, providing relevant payroll data (absences, leavers, overtime), and supporting the resolution of payroll-related queries in liaison with the outsourced payroll provider.

  • Travel is required within the role once a month at our Carlisle site

Key Skills:

  • CIPD Level 5 (or working towards) or equivalent HR qualification.
  • Strong understanding of UK employment law and HR best practices.
