The successful candidate will provide a professional service covering all aspects of HR, employee relations, and industrial relations, supporting a culture of continuous improvement to ensure that all contract objectives are achieved and maintained through the performance of people. The People Team at this small site supports around 150 colleagues, with additional support for a smaller local site with approximately 50 colleagues. You will work within this busy team to provide a professional service covering all aspects of employee relations and the colleague lifecycle. We are looking for an experienced People Advisor with strong Employee Relations (ER) and Trade Union experience; with standalone experience to work across a 24-hour, 7-days-per-week operation. This role is onsite based.

How will you contribute?
  1. Reporting to the People Manager, with a dotted line to the on-site General Manager.
  2. Have a good understanding of employment legislation and ensure practices are carried out in line with changes in legislation.
  3. Providing high-quality advice and generalist HR support across the site.
  4. Manage a busy ER caseload, advising on legislative and company policy and procedures efficiently.
  5. Develop effective ongoing relationships at all levels, establishing yourself as a credible, respected, and valued People Advisor, responding to queries directly and influencing managers to follow best practices.
  6. Assist departmental managers in interpreting and implementing company policies, procedures, and local agreements.
  7. Support the delivery of the People plan for the year, making adjustments as needed to suit the business.
  8. Compile and analyze market information.
  9. Facilitate and lead wellbeing and social events.
  10. Work with the local community and other agencies.
  11. Assist in coaching, mentoring, and developing the management team.
What will you bring?
  • Previous experience within a similar role.
  • Ideally holding a recognized HR qualification.
  • Competent knowledge of employment law.
  • Previous experience in a transport/distribution environment would be desirable.
  • Previous experience of absence management.
  • Previous experience of Oracle HR is an advantage.
  • Experience of working within a unionized environment.
  • Excellent PC skills.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workload, working under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
